Essentially we're hoping to turn the key and drive off! We'll find somewhere close by to stop and do some routine maintenance though (oil/filter, fuel filter, air filter, rear diff fluid). I do have to replace a broken exhaust hanger at some point. The tailpipe is currently being held on by...

Our dual battery/solar electrical system included:
Optima Batteries Yellowtop Deep Cycle Battery 34/78 (55Ah I believe)
Blue Sea Systems Solenoid SI Series (120A 12/24V ACR)
Blue Sea Systems 5025 ST Blade Fuse Block – 6 Circuits with...
Since I initially wrote the blog post we picked up a Sony A6000 for Ashley (which I have borrowed on occasion) and have been really impressed. Small size, APS-C sensor, and full manual capability all for about $700 depending on where you buy it. Everything has it's purpose, but this is a pretty...
So far we have travelled from Vancouver, BC to Costa Rica and will soon be heading south towards Argentina. When people ask about our favourite place that we've been to we almost always say "Baja". The wild-west feel, warm waters, white sand beaches, and cheap tacos make for an experience that...
Only 48 days to go until our departure! Mocha Salt just posted an interview about our thoughts on travel, Central American mechanics, and spending time outdoors. http://www.mochasalt.com/journal/the-journey-continues/

We made the move from 800sq ft to 400sq ft. The savings over a year is enough to cover 6 months on the road. Plus, since the place is so small it forces us to get out into the mountains every weekend. Bonus!
Sure, everybody has to work the 9-5, but don't forget about the 5-9. We spent the last year in Vancouver, BC working and saving for our next trip (as Mech. Eng. Tech/Photograher and Paralegal/Nutritionist) but that never stopped us from getting out of the city. Weeknights are made for sunset...
I sold my 2000 5.3L Silverado to pay for my 1990 22RE powered pickup. I owned an 88 4Runner with a 3.0L/auto and currently have a 1993 Pickup with a 3.0L/5 Speed. The 3.0L is definitely not as bad as they say for reliability, but don't expect too much for power. Compared to a big V8 it feels...
This is an AWESOME thread idea!

I picked up our Red third gen for free because the fenders were see-through, the engine was burning oil and needed EVERY vital sensor, and the interior was made of mould instead of fabric. Built it over 4 months and spent money where it counts since we are...
We bit the bullet and picked up this 12V Heated Mattress Pad from Amazon. I'm still skeptical of heating using a (house) battery, but this 36"x60" heating pad suppostedly only requires 8A on the max setting. The main goal is to warm up the RTT mattress and down bags a bit before bed when we're...
Hey Luis, apparently I haven't been paying enough attention to this forum as I totally missed this post. Tons of reading to catch up on!

Sounds like they've been running consistently over the last few months.
ericjn, maybe we'll see you somewhere along the way? We'll be in Costa Rica again in a couple of months and heading south from there!
