Yes it needs to be grounded. More static is not a bad thing. It means it's hearing more. Now to reduce ignition noise I'd suggest reviewing http://www.k0bg.com for ideas

Glass mounting is as bad as it gets. Consider mounting to the rear quarter panel using a ball mount. Breedlove is one of the best. An alternative is welding a bracket onto the vehicle near the tailgate or hood.

MY (note personal preferences) basic changes to his install...dual battery is a good idea if you run more than an HT from the car. Not a fan of the VHF/UHF antenna but your mileage may vary. Don't run the antenna in a metal box. Not a good idea as the antenna won't tune right. Get away from the...
Tooling around I stumbled on this video of an install to a Jeep. Might give some folks ideas on what to consider/do for installing mobile HF/VHF/UHF.

Not my video.
By way of an update I got the General Grabber AT2s. The forecast had a few ugly ice and snow storms coming and frankly, I would have left the truck in the driveway due to the condition of the tires on the vehicle. they were not bald but may as well have been!
I do not regret my purchase even...
I have a Nuvi and use it well on road. Probably would get a second for the wife's car. All the reading here suggests using a tablet with nonGarmin maps
Anything bad about the Garmin 24K maps? The ones I saw can be on SD card so I'd just get the regions needed and route via base camp. Just...
The funny thing is I read several pages from a Canadian tire seller. All the Candians liked the AT2 for everything but mud. Most Jeep folks agree. AT3s rule mud. They are mixed about AT3s in snow.
If only I could own both...right now the wallet is looking locally and favoring the AT2s. Have to...
Great work from both posters on their systems. Kinda makes me want to swap out the house shower for this. Could be better! lol
What is your water source? Are you doing drafting off a pool of water or something? Just curious. I assume no more than 3-5 mins max of actual water flow per shower. If...
Cross posted from T4R my appreciation for those who read it twice.
All,
Just got a new 2001 4Runner SR5. It has 170K on the Odo. We knew it needed tires, however, after letting the mechanic look at it our list of fixes is extremely short and focused on routine maintenance ( ) However...
So I did the deed and traded in my 2001 Escape for a 2001 4Runner. This means that after about 9 years I need to do an install from scratch. I learned a lot in that time and the Expedition Portal has some great ideas as does the T4R 3rd gen list. So I am curious if anyone has done HF/VHF/UHF in...
