    My Journey

It was 3:00 p.m. when we started this hike and once we passed the steepest grade the walk was fairly easy.....I kept telling myself that we needed to head back but it was so beautiful up there on that ridge.....so we kept on hiking..... I finally decided that we'd turn around at 4:00 p.m...

    My Journey

The reason I had returned to this area had nothing to do with Alstrom Point nor did it have anything to do with walking these roads.....I returned to this area simply to see the Kaiparowits Plateau..... And so it was at the "Y" in the road, we left the somewhat flat roads behind and began...

    My Journey

If you really want to get to know a place.....and I emphasize the world "really".....boots are the only way to go..... We walked and we walked and we just kept on walking.....nights we spent camped on the roadway.....there was nobody else here so there were no concerns...

    My Journey

Ace.....the other concern that I had here was the crossing of Wahweep Creek just to the east of Big Water, Utah. The creek was flowing pretty good the first day we crossed it and I had no idea what to expect after a storm..... tgil.....I can assure you that Tanner did not like that road.....he...

    My Journey

At some point during our hike along the rim, intermittent rain began to fall..... As we approached Alstrom Point the intermittent rain became a steady light rain and it followed us for the remainder of that morning..... We spent the remainder of that day hiking along the...

    My Journey

JD.....she's one of a kind (as all dogs seem to be in their special ways)..... Sierra Valley.....yep, the road is certainly doable. As a matter of fact Ace hauled his trailer through that mess. My rig is much bigger and heavier.....I just don't like taking it on roads like that. My truck camper...

    My Journey

Arjan.....yea man ! Sweet spot !! Thanks..... Initially the road into Glen Canyon National Recreation Area was in really great shape.....we were actually lucky since a motor grader had just worked the road..... Once we got off that main road, things went downhill fairly...

    My Journey

tgil.....she's funny with that baseball cap..... Riversdad.....since the incident with the rabbit (I wondered if I'd ever see her again) I have not let her off the leash. I just don't want to risk it.....she's hard headed but I'm sure with time (& age) she'll come around. We spend most of our...

    My Journey

Ace / Riversdad.....my guess is that I had much more in common with the "wild dogs" and the "thieving Indians" than I did with the Snowbirders.....just cause I look like them doesn't mean I am like them.....I fed those dogs from my hands and I loved them..... Sometimes I wonder how it is that...

    My Journey

Our next stop was in Kayenta, Arizona (population around 5,500).....a fairly good size town located within the Navajo Nation (Dine') Indian Reservation.....the plan for this town was to simply make a stop at the local Burger King for my favorite veggie burger, fries, & large coke.....just love...

    My Journey

tgil.....hopefully that will continue to be the case.....I'm cautiously optimistic but it's cold out there and it could be all about that. I'm still in cold country (Utah) and I'm concerned with what I might find as I continue south (assuming that I do indeed go further south)..... I guess...

    My Journey

We drove from the west to the east..... .....and as we did I began to think that maybe we should stay for at least a night..... We picked a great spot on the east side.....we had the entire valley it seemed to ourselves..... As the sun was setting we walked the sandy...

    My Journey

We left those wonderful views behind early that next day..... .....as we made a retun to the Valley of the Gods.....we headed down the Mogi Dugway..... I had no plans to stay even one night at the Valley of the Gods this year..... .....but we were in no hurry.....once again I was...

    My Journey

Sunrises & sunsets..... We stayed less than 24 hours.....and we saw exactly what we had come to see..... .....and that was also the last that we would see of the Bears Ears for this season.....

    My Journey

tgil.....yea, looking back I'm thinking that was possibly my favorite ruin..... JD.....thanks....just like last winter, I'm having trouble leaving southeast Utah once again.....it's way too cold here right now.....but then I just love it here so much..... Now I kept thinking about what that...

    My Journey

Amazing views were had from the canyons rim..... We followed the trail across massive rock slabs and were constantly on the lookout for stone cairns..... .....as the trail weaved its way down into the canyon..... Things were actually going quite well until we got to this...

    My Journey

Pkripper.....I had Muley Point all to myself.....only there for 24 hours but didn't see a soul. And actually, for the most post, I'm not seeing many people out there in my travels this year. There were definitely more last year (so far)..... Ace.....I know that spot but we didn't drive there...

    My Journey

I don't have much to say about this one..... .....sometimes pictures are all we need..... .....yep.....we did indeed really enjoy our visit to the House on Fire ruins.....

    My Journey

pkripper / Ace.....not a secret place & didn't mean to mislead.....it's Alstrom Point.....my guess is that others could easily make it there in less time but 2 hours from Big Water, Utah is about as good as it gets for me.....the last few miles of that road were brutal..... Sierra...

    My Journey

So now we're retracing our steps from last years visit to Bears Ears National Monument.....we had overnighted here previously and I knew it to be a good spot to stay..... There are ruins here but I won't post more pictures of them.....there's plenty here from a year ago already...
