Central NV Airway Beacon & Aircraft Crash Search, Take II

Another hit outta the park! Great pics and trip report. Reminds me of my NV exploring trips in the '80's out looking for old ghost towns, hot springs and secret air force bases - good times. God I miss the desert! Thanks, Al

    LC Industries Water Can Pics

Mine Sceptors don't. Five MWCs bought from BQ in '04 and one surplus USA MWC (well used). None have any o-ring on any cap or vent anywhere on the can. Bottom line: It doesn't matter since mine don't leak.

Anyone ever heard of this in a Ford 6.0 diesel?

Pretty much my experience with '06 F-350 SRW. It's only really louder when I put my foot in it. It cost me $45 at my local muffler shop to replace the kitty with a test pipe, so I can reinstall it if I want (like going to the dealer for warranty work). $45 to remove the muffler. Best $90 I...

Central NV Airway Beacon & Aircraft Crash Search

Great pics and great report! When you came through Dixie Valley, did you see the geo-thermal power plant there? I passed it back in the late '80's, the last time I was in Dixie Valley. It didn't take many NV trips to figure to carry lots of extra gas. I now use a 4runner with a 17 gallon...

Wide mouth NATO fuel cans $12

No! That site has the Wedco/NATO/Euro sized gaskets, NOT the large mouth gaskets for the cans that are the subject of this thread. Look at the pictures above then look at the pictures at the site listed above - they aren't the same cans. To whit: Wedco can, note the mouth is in the center...

Recovery point advise on a D2

Please don't do this. Those cluster hooks are not designed for recovery. See here for examples where AWDirect clearly states that these are not designed for recovery: http://www.awdirect.com/grade-70-t-mini-j-combo-hook-cluster-w-connecting-link-grab-hook-11-7gh/hooks/ Discussion on what...

    Diesel fuel filter/water separators

I'm not familiar with the Dodge Cummins fuel system, so can't help there. But this might help with the selection of fuel filters and heads: http://www.rocketcityrockcrawlers.com/memberstuff/al/PPF_2008-02-25.pdf Good luck. Al

    trailer hitch cargo basket pics??

To keep my drawbars etc. from making noise and to get rid of any slop, I replace the hitch pins with a 4 1/2" Grade 8 bolt with locking nut and torque it down to 100-125 lbs. With normal clearances, it should tighten enough to take the slack out and with it, the noise. Good luck. Al

Dual batteries: Fancy kit or regular kit?

Nothing wrong with that kit except that it's about $200 over priced. A continuous duty relay(80/250 IRC) can be had from Surplus Center for about $7 +/-. The rest is cable, wiring and electrical terminals. There certainly isn't +$200 worth of stuff to buy.

Pickuptrucks.com picks best HD trucks for 2011

My kitty is in the garage and my muffler is now in an '03 7.3 from '06 6.0 PSD. I love the sound of my exhaust, no drone, but quiet unless I put my foot in it. $45 each to get rid of the exhaust (permanently) and to install a "test pipe" where the kitty used to be. Best mod I did to my PSD. Al

    Using shackles made in China?

Fastenal for me. Talk is cheap for me though since I pass it on the way home every day, the manager and I know each other by name and I get the 15-40% Boring discount. I *think* the Tractor Supply versions are made in India, but that's old information since it's been a couple years I've been...

Not sure but Old Grouch Surplus might have something to fit those larger-than-Nato cans. Good luck. Al ETA: checked the OG site, he doesn't have them. Good luck.

    Gravity feeding auxiliary tanks

Furnace Creek gas station, FC Death Valley NP, late July, 2008. Fuel prices were crazy high that summer, absolutely the worst time in the last 9 years to go on a cross country desert trip. Oh well. Here's the same prices at Panamint Springs, same timeframe:
