First-Aid situations you've encountered in the backcountry

Luckily I haven't ever needed to use most of the items in my first aid kit, but it has definitely come in handy on multiple occasions. I have two kits, one stays in the truck and contains the items recommended during RedCross and NOLS wilderness first aid classes. The other is a small one that I...

Battery post connector for multiple wires?

I've used solder slugs from delcity.net and a torch for multiple connections, they have all held up fine to years of offroad trips. On one project i needed to terminate a battery cable that was already in the engine bay and I didn't want to use a torch. Instead I used a vise and a nail to crimp...

    pot and pans

The 7 piece stainless set has been on sale at Amazon for $81 recently. According to camelcamelcamel.com this is the lower price they've ever been sold at, so I bought a set to replace my beat up old non-stick pots and pans. They Magma's just arrived and I have not cooked using them yet, but I'm...

    90,000 lumen flashlight?

Those 100w LEDs are pretty inexpensive, about $4-6 each on ebay. You can also get the glass lens and holder there as well. http://www.ebay.com/itm/121320571337?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I bought one last year to play around with, and it put out an amazing...

Buying or hiring someone to make a drawer system

Ok, those drawers are pretty easy to make. For what it's worth I recommend building them as two completely separate enclosures so that you have more configuration options. As I mentioned before 1/2" cabinet grade plywood works well for the drawer and case, and you can use 1/4" on the bottom to...

Buying or hiring someone to make a drawer system

Are you just looking for two rectangular boxes with drawers? Or something more complicated? For example, would two drawers such as this work for you? - Matt

Buying or hiring someone to make a drawer system

Hi Adam, Are you just looking for two simple pull out drawers in rectangular enclosures, or are you looking for something more complicated that has curves to fit the cargo area of your truck, fridge/stove slides, work table, etc? Building basic rectangular enclosures with drawers is fairly...

Winch switch/circuit breaker option (Warn 9.5xp, 482A max load at 9500lbs)

Is your primary goal to be able to disable the winch, or to provide circuit protection? For circuit protection you could use a 500A Mega fuse. http://www.delcity.net/store/MEGA%C2%AE-Fuses/p_800374 Combined with high-current manual switch this could make a nice setup.

    Fusing a winch

Del City is a good company. I've ordered from them several times and have never had a problem. - Matt

    3rd gen shimmy

This type of vibration is pretty common with 3rd gen 4runners, and it can be hard to track down. Some things to look into: - Make sure your wheels are properly balanced using a Haweka adapter. The stock wheels are lug centric (as opposed to hub centric). - U-joints in the rear driveshaft. -...

    Fusing a winch

Small world! I just fused my winch with the same fuse and fuse block last month. I haven't had an opportunity to use the winch since then, but if the fuse is an issue it is easy to move the +12 lead from the winch to the un-fused post on the block. - Matt

And I just noticed that a friend of mine is "communing with nature" in the background of that last picture. He's on expo, let's see if he reads this thread. :)

    Damaged by the Dusy

Wow, thank you for taking the time to write up your trip report, really well done. I ran part of the trail several years ago, but it started to snow and we were very aware that our rigs barely met the "minimum requirements" so we turned back. Seeing your pictures and reading your story makes me...

    Post up your drawer/storage system

I mounted the slides into shallow dados when I made my drawer system. Because I used 1/2" plywood to save weight the dados could not be very deep before they affected the strength of the side panels. - Matt

    Oil Spill Kits Discussion Thread

I never understand the "oil came out of the Earth" argument. Yes, crude oil came out of the earth. But then it was refined and run through a vehicle where it picked up a ton of contaminants. What leaked out of a truck is very different than what came out of the ground. Also, when was the last...

1996 Discovery 1 300tdi/R380 with CA diesel title

Did I mention the 500+ mile range on a single tank of diesel? Put in a couple of hundred dollars of work and some labor and this is an awesome expedition machine! No computers, manual transmission, solid axles, easy to maintain, and great gas mileage. - Matt
