It was December 2018 when we saw it.
Pairoa is absolutely correct. The authorities in Chile are pretty switched on. I would imagine making the vehicle legal or exporting it now would be an expensive challenge

I would be amazed if it's 4x4 that bit doesn't have at least a rear difflock.
As the vendor to send pictures of the pneumatic turn knobs down by the base of the year stick.
We have been travelling in South America for 3 years now and have seen thousands of 1113's and 911' s in every...
Pairoa.
We stumbled,by sheer chance, into the Tatra shown in your pictures. It was parked in the back garden of a house hidden high in the hills near Pucon, Chile. A friend of our rented a house there and when she turned up it was parked in the garden. It clearly hadn't been moved for a very...
We have several friends who have converted these trucks into overland vehicles.
They are fantastic. Real head turners and very tough.
The only slight downside is they are noisey in the cab.
Neil
Look great. Watching closely.
I have had the springs out of my truck many times.
The trick is to get The existing springs without any tension on the pins. If you get this right you can litteraly push the pins out with your fingers. One extra or one less pump on the jack and you will be banging...
Jon, sorry not coolant related but can you take loads of before after and during photos of the spring change over.
I am very interested in this conversion
Thanks from a sweaty Rio DJ

I am not sure that this engine has an EGR valve. Sounds a bit too technicalit advanced for this era of mercedes.
Might be wrong , I am only comparing it to my OM352a 1988 engine which is very similar
Neil
Is your hydronic heating system sharing the same water or did you keep the circuits separate.
We have a small tube that runs from the top of the radiator into the side of the neck of the filler on the expansion tank. Its about 10 mm diameter. Not sure what it's function is.
The filler cap has...
I also have the information that I can add petrol to the diesel to stop it waxing. Not sure how the Eberspacher will like it. I c9ntacted Eberspacher once about adding anti Waxing agents the fuel and received the stock non informative answer " don't " without further explanation
I think this is...
I am not sure of Joe'srrasons for a portable tank, but wish I had a separate tank, maybe portable for my system.
The reason being is My main tanks are outside. My heater feeds from one of them. At Minus 25 in Bolivia at 5000m starting my vehicle without pre heating was impossible ( no glow...
We carry a Honda Generator.
Two and a half years in South America now. Never used it and often wonder if it still works. Should really turn it over.
It's not something I would bring again, but we don't have cabin air con
Neil
I travelled for a short while with a family from Israel. They too had the second hand issue so they purchased it in the UK and then sold it on in Colombia.
Ref MAN . Check the availability of parts and dealers in the destinations you want to visit. I don't think there are that many outside...
Hi Jon
Great info on the springs.
How will you combat the big difference in height of the primary stack. Is he providing spacers or is the new curve enough to create the same height
Neil
Fantastic news, well done. You can keep working on these trucks for ever if you don't watch yourself. There comes a time when you just have to get going. There is always a list of jobs to do on the road . Some get done , some don't.
Well done,
I am very interested in your new springs, did...
Keep it as it is. You soon get used to Slow, infact I wouldn't change a thing with our truck now. The desire for speed soon melts away and is replaced by getting to see your surroundings better.
The journey is a major part of travelling, don't rush it.
Neil
Pairoa. Happy New year to you from hot and sweaty Colombia.
The truck looks great.
Simon. I have searched for 6 years for such an air intake. They are almost impossible to find
Neil
Diplostrat.
Agreed.
Whilst the unimog is a fantastic vehicle I have yet to see the advantage over many other vehicles. Once you put a £120,000 cabin on the back, you are not going to use it to its ability. It's your home. Why would you risk your dream.
Great vehicle but not necessary for 99%...
