After seeing the image of the Ranger floor linked above I'm more happy about my decision to go ahead and buy a used F150. The cavernous flat floor in the back and the easy to flip up seats have been the one feature I didn't know I need but now can't live without. SO useful for so many things...
First time I've ever heard of a basic fire protection system not being required. Even if not by codes, then by corporate insurers.
Suppose it started with an electrical short?;)
We had this discussion on another car forum. Of all the ************** things manufacturers have made us do for simple maintenance this doesn't even rank. As mentioned you should be rotating the tires anyway. With a cheap impact gun I'd rather remove a wheel than drop a skid plate.
Having just bought an F150 with the 6R80 I find this a very interesting discussion. I'm not planning big lifts or a lot of HEAVY towing but I will be dragging a 4k lb boat around a lot in the summer in the southeastern US. I've got the factory tow pack but I suspect I'll be moving to a larger...
I bought a new full size pickup so I'm selling the Grand Cherokee I've been building for the last year. For more pics, full info on what's been done (a lot) and what it needs (not much) follow the link to the local CL add...
Hey Greg - how did the Falcons affect the ride comfort? I love the plush ride on mine but I'm already going to E-rated ATs from the P-rated all seasons. I've read that the Bilstein leveling shocks are noticeably firmer than stock. I wondered how you felt about the Falcons in that regard.
Hey, you're the first guy I'VE heard of! I wouldn't worry too much. The basic engine tech is well established in the Mustang and the chassis is derivative of what they've been running overseas for years. It's new, but it's not really unproven.
In less than a week of driving around town (I have a 7 mile commute) I'm averaging 15.5mpg. Which is fine by me. The Jeep I'm replacing averaged 12. My one trip on the interstate so far was much better. Of course those are computer numbers which we all know are..uh..optimistic. I drove several...
of course...the fact that it has a rubber flapper valve internally to keep water out means I'm probably safe for the rare unintentional dunk. I think you'd have to submarine it pretty good to get water that deep long enough to be a problem.
I just picked up a 2013 EcoBoost F150. I don't do a lot of deep water crossings, but here in the muddy, rainy southeast there's always the possibility that a normal creek crossing will be higher than you expect. The front axle vent is up by the master cylinder so it's as high as the intake and...
Well the truck I bought is a '13 Ecoboost FX4 F150 and I'm pretty impressed so far. That explorer was solid though - 302 V8, 4R70W trans. It ran when nothing else would. Loaned it out all over the family. Drug a 3000lb camper all over north Georgia. Never let us down.
I have a Jeep. I just bought a Ford pickup because I own a Jeep. I'll be selling the Jeep.
Granted, the Jeep is a '97 but before it I had a '97 V8 Explorer that was hands down a better-built, more reliable vehicle. I sold it to a friend with 215k miles on it and his daughter is still driving...
