The 5 speed in the Wrangler is a hoss...W5A850 is the designation. If you are interested do a google and you will read about how robust it is and the different vehicles it is in...even a Porsche 911.
They are not for everyone, but it is cool have the diesel and showing up to an Expo event in something other than a 4Runner or a Wrangler...:wings:

I guarantee the Ford dealer is not going to touch that potential issue with a 10ft pole...if ain't leaking it must be ok is there mentality. There is a good chance that it is ok, but some of the guys running CRDs in Canada have taken a beaten. It is a relatively easy fix to repair the tank...
That is a QD2 system..there should also be a label on the center of the dash just in front on the center cup holders that says Quadra Drive II

The days of manuals getting better MPG are long gone. I actually would be surprised if any OEM in North America is spending any money on making manual transmissions more efficient...hell Jeep does not even put the correct amount of fluid in them....:smiley_drive:
Manual are a dying breed...it is not only Jeeps. Class 8 tractors are slowly losing the 10 speed manual transmission as well. To meet EPA/GHG requirements truck OEMs are having to transition to Automated Manual Transmissions to maximize fuel economy.

I would look at one of the V8 WKs also....newer vehicle and you can get the QD2 or QT2 4x4 systems which provide a 4LO. QD2 has electronic lockers fr and rear. Both systems are pretty much unstoppable in the snow. Parts are readily available.
