    Best Pee Jars?

For me the greater risk would be climbing down half awake. At 73 a fall would be life changing. Unless it is raining or freezing out. Me: I can get up, get the hose into the bottle, empty, climb back into bed without either fully waking up or loosing much warmth in the bed. 8 years no accidents.

Minimum EV Range Requirement for Touring Western U.S.

Do they get exempted from crash standards too? You mean like fire trucks, ambulances, repair trucks?

    Bicycle Transport options and ideas?

I agree that you want your bikes protected from the elements and theft. First, I would buy or make a ramp to roll your bike onto the tailgate. Even with a good back I would not want to lift 70+ lbs of awkward weight that high. Billiebob's point: I have a Cannondale bike carrier that will...

Minimum EV Range Requirement for Touring Western U.S.

The mining of lithium for my 5 oz iPhone battery polluted 10 - 15 gallons of water with toxic metals. How much pollution are you willing to tolerate for a 1200 lb Tesla battery? For the 1,000,000 EV's that are going to be sold in California in 2035? I don't hate EVs. I think pushing electric...

    Brake Pads for Overweight Tacoma

Something does not seem right with your camper weight. I have a FWC Grandby that weighs a little less than 1300 lbs loaded for 2 weeks remote camping (camper on truck - empty truck weight). And I used 1/2" plywood for my cabinetry and 120 lbs of batteries.

Freak Accident Kills Good Samaritan Trying To Pull A Rig Out Of The Mud!

So: How (is there) a safe way to use the receiver as an anchor for extraction? - And - How do I size the tow strap or do I just get the biggest available?

RV Refrigerators - what is the current trend?

Last winter I replaced an old Norcold with a cheap dorm fridge. So far, with 6 weeks of use, it is working well. Powered by a Victron Pheonix 500VA inerter, with 200W solar and 208AH GC2s, I am at ~80% in the morning and full before 1 pm. It's been down some bad washboard.

RV Refrigerators - what is the current trend?

I have a Viltron Phoenix 500 VA PSW inverter running my fridge. It consumes 1W in zero-load ECO mode; not enough to worry about.

Do we really need a spare?

A solid rubber tire has a couple of disadvantages: - they are very heavy; bad for GVW and unsprung weight. - poor rolling resistance. - much more difficult to manhandle (weight). - if hard traction not good, don't conform to surface. - if soft they will overheat and self-destruct. Peter...

    Expert opinion needed?

I can keep ice up to 6 days in 80º+ weather using a cheap Coleman cooler wrapped in an old down comforter and keeping it out of the sun. Might be able to get 10 days out of a Yeti by doing the same (Yeti has about double the insulation). The more expensive coolers have thicker plastic so...

What is gained by a gas 3/4-1 ton over 1/2 ton truck?

I backpacked, canoe'd, and mountaineered for 40+ years. Now my knees are swollen after carrying a 30# pack over rough terrain all day and it hurts to get up off the ground in the morning. My goal is to enjoy myself. So, I take 8000 lbs. of truck and camper to places that are off the beaten...

Best $200 (or less) Tool Kit for College Student?

My rule of thumb: Only give tools I know the recipient knows how to use safely. Depending on my time and relationship, I will spend the time to quiz them and/or demonstrate its use.

    Truck Camper that Sleeps 4?

When I bought my 8' Grandby it was set up to sleep 5: 2 on overhang, 3 on queen down; all east/west. With enough room in the back for a small fridge and one person standing (two if you're hugging). If you are handy you could remodel a 6.5' or 8' with a table/bed in the front that sits 4 and...

Can someone smarter than me please explain…

Nope. Similar problem: there is not enough electricity going to farms to power planting and harvest. A couple of week window when a crop farm uses 80%+ of its energy. We will need a massive generation, storage, and distribution rural upgrade for that to happen. Diesel, gasoline, and natural...
