    Camper transfer?

AKA cable jacks. I use 4 of these, one on each corner. Makes loading a little less stressful.

Frame Strength, Who to Believe! The RV Sales Guy or the New Truck Dealer? Maybe Neither?

No way to tell CG just by looking at a picture. Depends on where the weight is in relation to the fulcrum (rear axle). And distance from the rear axle is a force multiplier (lever arm). One needs at least two weights of each axle independently: truck without camper, full fuel tank...

    Falken Tires

Is it just me? From reading here and talking with friends, it seems that some tires work better on different makes/models/suspension geometry than others. I've driven Dodge most of my adult life: mostly 4X4, solid front axle, both front coil and leaf spring, rear leaf. Of the AT tires I've...

    Goal Zero to Pigtail

The Sherpa 100AC has (1) 110V inverter plug on the front and (2) USB-C connectors on the sides. The capacity of the 100AC is 100Wh(?). Easiest would be to find a 110V to 12V buck transformer. Or you could kluge a 20V to 12V buck transformer using a USB-C connector. How long that will power...

    Battery warming for Lifepo4 batteries.

You didn't specify what kind of trips: 3 day weekend where temps might get to low 20s, 14 day hunting trip where temps might not get above freezing? Different solutions. Truckers use a 'battery thermal wrap' to warm up starter batteries. The one I have used was 120V; there might be 12V...

200ah lithium. One battery or two?

Redundancy Easier to muscle two 40lb batteries vs one 80 lb battery, especially if they are in an awkward place.

Does Anyone Actually Use Their House Water for Drinking?

I was 3 days in on a BWCA canoe trip when one of the group contacted beaver fever (Giardia lamblia). I never want to get that even close to an ER! I've boiled or filtered surface water ever since. We were told by rangers in the Alaska range to boil snow melt as the wind will carry frozen...

    8' camper, 6.5' truck bed?

Get your truck weighed twice, CAT scales are numerous and inexpensive: 1st - without camper, with full of fuel, driver, and any passengers you take with. 2nd - with camper fully loaded, fuel, driver, passengers. Note: - weight at rear axle when loaded vs. rear axle weight rating. - front axle...

Great Expośe on the Quality of Camper Trailers and RV’s Today

If manufacturers are doing such a crappy job of finishing a camper what makes you think that they will be careful about the frame, running gear, basic shell? I think one would be better off starting with a construction trailer or building on a flatbed.

    Sleeping bag options

I have a down sleeping bag. It got wet on a mountain climbing trip. It would not dry out (2 weeks). I slept in an arctic parka and overpants; very cold and uncomfortable. And I'm not even an old wife.

    Sleeping bag options

Down is great, until it gets wet. If you camp in areas that have a lot of rain or high humidity it might not be the best choice. And it is almost impossible to dry while camping. Synthetic down replacements are almost as good, don't absorb water, insulate when wet, and can be dried in the...

How Do You Store Your Garbage?

    1. - I eliminate all unnecessary packaging and scrap while I have a place to dump it. This greatly reduces my camping garbage. 2. - When camping alone I generate very little garbage. That goes in the gamma-seal bucket that my poop bags go in (my bucket toilet). 3. - When traveling with...
