You need a "shelf" in the back. Gear goes below, dog goes on top. This should solve your problem, I'd think. Kilby makes one for the TJ that could be used as inspiration for a one-off fabrication project, or you could build a shelf on top of a Tuffy box or on top of a wooden or metal frame...
I've got a nifty little Fuji FinePix E550 that I'll trade ya even-up, if you're really itching to get back to the world of P&S. I'll even cover the shipping to get the DSLR to me! :victory:
Maybe I missed it, but what exactly are you planning on doing with the Jeep? Expedition travel versus all-around camping/backroads versus "playing around" on rocks/dirt/mud/etc. all tend to favor different attributes. Figuring out where you fall will determine what you want to change and what...
Great hiking/geocaching units, but the screens are not great for driving. That said, for $75...hell, I'd probably buy it.
I have the no-uploading 200, and it has been fine for navigation to known coordinates. It has taken a beating, logged many miles mounted to my bicycle handlebars, and...
I owned one like that before. It is not suitable for the use you have in mind - the steel is too darned thin to do anything with.
You'd be better off buying a $400 welder and making one yourself, frankly.
BFG A/T should do ya nicely. 31-10.50-15 would be my choice, especially if you roll around in sand.
I wish they'd make a 31-9.0-15, which would be a perfect TJ/LJ tire in snow country, but no luck.
2002 TJ. Ford 8.8" rear. 1.25" front spacer, rear airbags. JKS Disconnects and lots of Mobil1. Demonstrated ability to be self-supported for two adults, except for gasoline, for >1 week.
In the summer:
In the winter (note the Yokahama Geolandar I/T winter tires - they're great!)...
Same here with the 2002 TJ with the 3-spd auto. Hardtop, winch, and maybe 75lbs of gear in the vehicle. Hook up the trailer, add on a couple yards of mulch or a load of logs, and it goes to the single digits.
Lookin' good! I continue to be envious, and may have to finally do something about that envy in 2008.
Do you happen to know (or could you measure) the width of the trailer at its widest point with stock tires? I'm assuming that the fender is wider than the hub, from the pictures and from...
Well, I bought one on eBay the other day and it arrived yesterday. Talk about an intuitive little unit - I unboxed it, stuck it to the windshield, plugged it in, and in less than a minute was on my way with turn-by-turn directions to my destination. I put probably 200 miles on last night...
Interesting product. Looks like it would prove helpful, since heat is a bit problem underhood on the TJs. I'm thinking of putting the AEV Heat Reduction hood on my TJ this spring and keeping the old hood in case I change my mind down the road.
Look forward to install pics!
I've gathered a few pieces together, though I luckily haven't had much need for any of it. Most of my recovery efforts have involved pulling people out of ditches and snowbanks in the winter, and I've primarily used my recovery gear to fell trees or skid logs.
The current kit, and I'm sure I'm...
Not sure if this helps the Toyota crowd, but here it goes...
One of the joys of having a vehicle that takes non-proprietary lights (Jeep TJ, 7" round lamp) is the fact that non-DOT lights can be swapped in. I tow a lot with the TJ and often had people flashing me for my "highbeams" being on...
Interesting. How much stiffer are the LJ rears than the TJ Heavy?
For the effort of sticking 1/2" spacers to re-level my TJ off, I might as well bite the bullet and finally do a lift. The rear springs have taken a serious beating from all the towing I do - soil, gravel, logs, etc - and have...
I agree - I ran 31-10.50-15 BFG A/Ts on my last Jeep and they were great year-round except on slippery icy stuff. The M/Ts are on Craigslist right now and A/Ts will be going on in the spring. I just wish they sold a 31-9.50-15 A/T. Might have to go to 16" rims with 235-85-16 and a slight...
Yup, but the rest of the world gets torquey little diesels backed up with a manual gearbox. The old 4.0 + 3spd slushbox is not a terribly economical creature!
Incidentally, I pulled my M/Ts today in favor of a set of Yokohama Geolandar I/T winter tires. My only driving on them so far was...
