    LJ unlimited...just got 18mpg on a trip

This thread made me quite envious - I want to get 18-20mpg out of my Wrangler TJ. It is substantially stock but for tires and some front-end leveling, and it struggles to get 14mpg. Drats.

    tj

LJ would be preferable, but TJ would work. The thing that will kill you is the space - there just isn't that much of it unless you pack the vehicle perfectly and fully. Add in a passenger and a dog, and you'll be looking for a trailer! That said, you'll be hard pressed to beat the aftermarket...

    2008 Grand Cherokee diesel

A friend of mine has one, and it seems like a nice vehicle. Power is impressive and fuel economy is very good if you don't try to take full advantage of the power at every stoplight!

Stove or Grill or...What do you use and Why?

I've been really pleased with this little Coleman multi-fuel unit. I've been content traveling with this stove, a skillet, and a saucepan for boiling water. Judiciously packed, the entire cooking kit, extra Coleman fuel, plus full dish cleaning gear, can fit in a single file box-sized...

    Lowrance 540C

Thanks for posting those pics! It looks like a good setup and that screen is massive. Nice to be able to mount your antenna inside the vehicle. I affixed the magnetic-mount antenna for my Sirius radio on the rear sports bar, beneath the padding, and it works great. One of the few benefits of...

    daihatsu looks pretty sweet

Those things are pretty neat. The current crop of 2-seaters with a small bed seem pretty nimble. A couple local construction companies have them to shuttle men and materials around construction sites. They've been putting in a sound wall along the interstate around here and have had at least...

Hit a deer, elk or moose?

Hit a whitetail at 50mph with a Jeep Wrangler YJ. No damage to the stock bumper except for a broken driving light.

10,000 Pound Winch & accessories at Sam's Club

Using the Ramsey mount plate, this is how an M8000 sits on a TJ: It can be even lower if mounted to a plate that sits forward of the swaybar, or mounted directly to a bumper. You can get about 2" lower that way, if you're really concerned about airflow.

    LJ/TJ setup for towing?

OK, I tow a lot with my TJ. Skidding logs, towing chippers (2500lb on the road, 5000lb off-road), utility trailer with landscaping materials, and lots of this towing is done off-pavement. All of this has been done with a round tube receiver hitch (Most are the same - hiddenhitch, uhaul, etc)...

Jeep lost transmission power on washboard road.

I'd love to tell you, but the invoice said WARRANTY under both the price and hours categories. I told my dealer that if they weren't going to warranty it to give me an estimate, but I was most likely going to put my $$$ into another trans. For me it would be a stick, but a GM 4-speed auto...

Jeep lost transmission power on washboard road.

Picked my TJ back up from the dealer yesterday. New pump, seals, and converter seems to have solved the power-loss problem for me, at least in the 10 miles I have on it so far. Dealer also said that the 70k powertrain warranty is now 100k? Go figure.

Jeep lost transmission power on washboard road.

Mine has done that a few times recently. No predictability as to when/why, and no leaks whatsoever. It's going in for a thorough diagnostic and (hopefully) rebuild next week...only 2700 miles left on the powertrain warranty, so I hope they solve it permanently.

    Mark's Keeping the Jeep

OK, how the heck do you get 16mpg with that setup? I struggle to get 13mpg with my TJ (4.0 3spd auto, K&N cold air, 3.73, 31 BFG M/T) and usually average 11-12. The K&N kit gave me 1mpg back when I installed it, and my mpg #s are post-K&N install. What kind of RPM are you turning at highway...

Avoiding the Gooey Mess: Soap Storage

Another vote for Nalgen! I run MobilRacing MX2T in my 2-stroke power equipment, and that stuff only comes in 1-quart bottles. So instead of carrying a measuring cup with me to the woods, I've got some soft, non-rigid 6oz Nalgene bottles that will make up 2 gallons of mix. These little...

Well, I can't match the scenic vistas and grand scale that y'all have out west with what I have here in lower Michigan, but these are a few from this weekend's trip to the northwest corner of the lower peninsula:

    M8000 for $529.99

M8000 for less than $500 to your door! If you buy from 4wheelparts, they seem to have a 10% off promo deal going at the moment. M8000-100-roller is $525.99-10% = 473.30+19.95 shipping. When I bought one from them they had a $50 gift card deal, which is more or less the same deal. If you...

    Jeep TJ Winch Thoughts

Yeah, I'll hardwire to the interior one of these days. I've got some interior wiring tasks to handle when I have a spare day to play around (hardwire my air compressor, inverter, and trailer winch power setup), so I'll tackle it at that point. But I've got some other irons in the fire in terms...

    Jeep TJ Winch Thoughts

OK, I did a quick install today. I mounted the solenoid on an L-bracket in the area immediately above and forward of the battery. I had two cable clamps hanging around that I salvaged to serve as u-bolts, with nylocks instead of the usual nuts that come on cable clamps. Electrical to the...
