AGM battery quality vs cost. Do your research.

I drive a lot of bad washboard. I am starting year 7 on my Sam's Club GC2s ($86 each). I draw about 50 of 208AH daily and have about 1200 cycles on them. My 2012 Ram 2500 came with a sealed FLA battery; I just replaced it with another sealed FLA this January. A friends 2017 Ford F150 came...

Using 'shipping wheels' to fit van into container instead of RORO

I got the smallest diameter wheels that will fit, mounted the smallest junk p-metric tires that will fit, and run them flat to get my '51 Power Wagon into a 7' garage door. If you need more traction (tires spin on the rim) put screws through the bead like drag racers do. I loose 8" with the...

    Bivystick?

My 2¢: The glaring difference (to me) is that the Bivy Stick becomes a simple, one way beacon if for any reason your cell phone is unavailable (forgot in truck, battery dead, fell in lake, . . . ). My inReach is fully functional as a stand alone unit. At least once a month I am somewhere where...

Portable diesel heater by Expedition Upfitter

Kind of expensive. I am planning on using one like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YNDBZ2T/?coliid=I2YENXL2QPAZRC&colid=27BMN3KDN9Y78&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it - note the exhaust pipe (and muffler); could get extra to make it longer. And either route it through the rear left corner where...

    Best Fridge

For those of you that have had success running a 120V mini or dorm fridge: - what refrigerator make & model are you running? - is a pure sine wave inverter required? - is it built in and does it have free space around the sides? - how do you keep the door closed? Thanks, jim

What Camper should I get? (Project M vs AT Atlas vs GFC vs Super Pacific x1)

What bryce0lynch said. Plus, some of us actually enjoy customizing our campers.

Retractable swim/boat ladder for camper access?

If you're rear access, why not use receiver mounted steps. Much more stable. And removable. You can leave them in or store them right inside the door - first thing deployed/out of harms way.

Is a locking system neccesary for drawers with UHMW slides?

I used soft close slides on my one drawer with no unwanted opening in 6 years of forest service roads and two track driving. Similar to these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PHL3R1Q?tag=askcom05-20&linkCode=osi&th=1&psc=1

    Which EV would you buy?

Two (or more) vehicles don't work for some of us: financial, logistical or both. I can only afford one vehicle and would have to find off-street parking for a second one (expensive). My Ram 2500 takes me on short trips with comfort and safety and safely carries my 1300 lb camper without...

Who has the oldest, still working 12 volt fridge/freezer?

Norcold DE 251D, manufacturing tag says 1982. I bought the camper it is in ('77 Grandby) 6 years ago, so don't know the history before I got it. I run it about 100 days a year - except this year. Freezer compartment doesn't keep things frozen any longer but it still keeps things at ~34º.

    Which EV would you buy?

My Ram 2500 gas gets about 1 mpg less in the winter (including -43ºF, I've driven at that temperature) and that is mostly because of the crappy gas blend we have to put up with in the winter. After fluids and bearings warm up there should be little difference. What kind of milage will a Tesla...

    Por-15 opinions and Experiences

I did the frame, bumpers, winch, and underbody of a '51 Power Wagon about 15 years ago; still no rust. It is impervious to brake fluid, gas, oil, gear lube, lacquer thinner. A couple of things: - get and use a fresh air breathing mask, not just a filter. This stuff can do damage to your...

Who has the oldest, still working 12 volt fridge/freezer?

I have a Norcold DE 251-D that came with my Grandby. Manufacturing sticker on the back says 1982. I have no idea of its history; I've had the camper for 6 years and run it about 10 -12 weeks a year.

    Diesel vs Gasoline

1970 Dodge D-100, 2WD, 225 slant 6, 3 in the tree, 1 bbl. with auto choke. - averaged ~22 MPG (got 35 once with a tail wind). - Never adjusted the carb, drove up to 10,000 ft. (Beartooth pass). - Drove it for 380,000 miles (body rusted away). - All repairs and maintenance done myself...
