FWC; major design changes, issues, and value?

It's obvious that you don't have experience with company finance. The only reason a successful company makes a change to a product (especially a well selling product) is improving the bottom line. It either increases sales, reduces cost, or meets new government mandates. Engineered...

Water system options for FWC Shell???

I travel alone with a beagle. I carry eight 1 gallon water jugs; they are easier for me to handle and can be filled almost anywhere. That will last me a week if I am careful. I carry an additional 6 gallon gerry can when extra water is desired.

    No refrigeration needed

Had my fill of Mountain House, et.al. in my mountaineering days. Too much starch and sodium. 'Freeze dried farts' are wicked after a few weeks of the stuff. But with all the dried fruit and veggies packaged for backpacking and all the canned fruits, veggies, and meats, why eat FD swill...

Thoughts on POR 15 for trailer build?

I used POR-15 and Chassis Coat Black on my avatar ('51 Dodge Power Wagon) frame and running gear. After 10 years it is still looking good. I used a cheap HF gun and was meticulous about cleaning; gun still works. POR-15 is, and Chassis Coat Black is NOT impervious to brake fluid; will wrinkle...

    Carrying a Second Spare

Any thoughts on where to carry a second spare on a Ram 2500, 8 ft box with FWC Grandby? Front vs. back.

What do you put between your camper and truck bed?

4' X 8' X 3/4" thick Owens-Corning Foamular (the pink stuff). Needed height to get over pickup bed side. Very light, adds insulation, and moisture doesn't get between bottom of camper and the Foamular.

Truck prep for the Dempster Highway

Thanks again for the replies. Just got my 2018 Milepost so I will be starting to map out my trip. Has anyone used any of the clinging film to protect your headlights and/or running lights? Or what did you use? Has anyone used any film to protect windshield? How does that work with windshield...

    Plates, bowls, ect

Thrift Store finds. I can find whatever dishes I want and if it breaks I'm out a buck. I like plates and bowls that have some heft to them. Stainless tableware at 10¢ each; mix or match. For water conservation: beagle prewash, rinse with spray bottle (filled with water, dish soap, and vinegar...

Truck prep for the Dempster Highway

Thanks to all who have answered so far; keep 'em coming. CrazyDrei - How did you shred a tire like that? My sidewall patching kung-**** isn't quite up to that. Mudflaps - OEM won't work? are thick rubber or thinner plastic (sheds mud) better? I have OEM tube running boards. Mud - slippery is...

Truck prep for the Dempster Highway

Apologies if this has been covered, a search didn't find anything. I am asking for advice on what I need to do to prepare my truck for a trip from Minnesota to Tuktoyaktuk in August/September 2019. I have a 2012 Ram 2500, 5.7l gas, standard cab, 4X4 that is stock. It carries a FWC Grandby...

    Cargo Trailer Aerodynamics

One of my neighbors is a manager for a FedEx hub. He has them on all his intercity trucks. He says they save ~ 12% on fuel. I've thought about doing something similar to my camper, just for giggles. https://slate.com/culture/2013/04/truck-panels-what-do-they-do-explained-photos.html

Agree with IdaSHO. I carry cross draw (gun on left side for right handed shooter), no interference with pack.

Crisis in our national parks: how tourists are loving nature to death

Exactly my experience with my beloved BWCA. When Minnesota paved the Gunflint Trail, usage exploded and we started seeing large, motorized watercraft on the lakes bordering the trail. Not nearly the traffic on the (still dirt) Sawbill Trail.

    Build: Flatbed for slide-in camper

I voted the way I am thinking of going: Minimum height with wheel wells. Because: Minimize frontal area. I loose ~ 1.5 MPG with the camper on; I don't know how much of that is frontal air drag, but I do get lots of bugs on the leading edge. Wind noise. I don't get any additional wind noise...
