As a quick my two cents:
If I was traveling and staying in a new spot each night, I think a TD is nicer, a lot less set up and can WalMart camp if needed. With such a young child the three will fit nicely inside for a couple of years, then add a RTT for the parents and leave the child inside the...
What was the LR on last night's Top Gear UK (3/10/13) I think it was a LR4. James (Capt. Slow) tested it in Nevada against a military truck, it was impressive when it went hood deep in water, the host said it will ford 36 inches of water, more than a Defender.
On the couple of times we have stayed in our Conqueror, I just tell them it's a pop up camper and I don't need an electric spot. I always try to get a tent site, but most CG will not allow the trailer on them. Saying it's a pop up is so much easier than explaining it's a RTT on a trailer.
Very cool! Almost makes me sorry I am out of the country for this weekend.... I was up for the workday in January. Lots of fun hanging guard rail and protecting the right to use the area! Good luck!
Congrats Chris, I have always thought a Miata would be a fun run around.... they just don't carry my hobbies well, but I bet you will love having it and the Jeep repaired!
Kermit,
I also have both (the 80 is new to the herd) but the family prefers the 80 already.
1. It's more comfortable, by a lot!
2. Taller than the cap on the Taco.
3. I have slept in the both of both and preferred the 80, partly because I could go from drivers seat to bed without
getting out...
I would look very close at leaks, there seem to be 3, motor, tranny, and rear dif.
I also agree with Homey, $3000 might be a touch high, but tough to trading very equally priced vehicles.
Looks pretty clean. Not sure on rear dif, leak at seal or one of the plugs would be easy. I don't know the name, but a leak at the drive shaft side might be worse. I did not think Toyota had a rear only locker choice, so it might be aftermarket... ARB? It will be the straight 6, slightly under...
It was Uwharrie NF. I am lucky it is 45 mins from my house and I have done all the trails in my Taco except one called Daniel, too likely to get damage for damage's sake. I don't mind pushing my truck, but not without a reason. That said, once or twice a year I enjoy "practicing" driver skills...
That rust looks deep! That is a great price (I think) for a running LC, but I think you would be throwing a lot of money into that one. I learned after my 40 series, engine work is cheaper than body work. Good luck!
