There isn't, and the real answer is a little more difficult. I believe the 4-speed is known to be Aisin, while the 5-speed is commonly referred to as the Jatco model. However, the 5-speed V5A51 transmission used is not referred to as Aisin or Jatco. Both use the same SP-III fluid...
Go to my signature to grab an FSM for the location of the pipes/hoses. Parts can be found on RockAuto or PartSouq. I usually use the latter to decide which ones I want to be OEM since they provide parts diagrams.
Usually with a transmission fluid flush, they drain the OEM fluid, run mineral oil, and reinstall the same OEM fluid. This practice is to prevent the old belief that new fluid will cause slipping/stop them from using the wrong fluid. In actuality, using the correct fluid is more important. My...
Grab digital copies of the FSMs from my link below. They will come in more handy than the owner's manual. The XLS is a very solid and rugged vehicle. Take due care of the engine and it should last a while. Mine was still going strong at 175k when it was wrecked. Current one is just reaching...
Take a picture of what you are describing. The parts diagram shows what looks like a plug on the bottom (05298) with a metal gasket. I have not touched this, but it may be what you are seeing. Not sure why it would start leaking.

The front is an 8" gearset, but I do not know if the bolt pattern for the ring gear is the same. I do not have enough experience with the Evo/VR-4 diffs to know for sure. If someone could open an 8" rear LSD to check the measurements against a Gen 3 front differential then we could check...
I think that is likely to be a one-off application. Remember, the Pajero Evolution was a homologation special build. They designed a top of the line Dakar winning truck with all the features Ralliart could fit. Then they built just enough as production vehicles to meet FIA regulations for the...
I've had a Gen 3 since 2006. I usually get met with confusion at the trails, but anyone who sees it in action is left impressed. Not the simplest or easiest on maintenance, but hard to beat for value.
Also, the ratios in the US Gen 3 are related to the transmission used, not the years.
4-speed transmission = 4.9 ratio
5-speed transmission = 4.3 ratio
It just happens that the 4 speed was discontinued in the US after 2002. This makes the situation of the following:
01-02 XLS = 4-speed...
Haolepinoy is right about the hybrid LSD, so you certainly are incomplete.
The main section of the differential is a Torsen gearset which will not get a torque difference in a lifted wheel scenario. Torque sensing units allow the torque on each side to be zero even if the speed is unequal...
That dealer price is outrageous. I have been using the PartSouq site since someone here suggested it, and it is quite reasonable, even with shipping from UAE. Usually arrives in a week with FedEx. I still use RockAuto for more generic parts or when there is a Denso, Aisin, or other Japan...
When refilling after changing the thermostat, be sure to use the 2 bleeder screws above it on the pipes. Remove both screws. Fill the radiator until it bleeds from the first hole, replace the screw and continue until it gets to the second hole. That should prevent any air bubbles in the...
When was the last time the timing belt was changed, and what are the chances that it is not aligned correctly? Also could check the spark and ignition along with battery voltage. It is strange that it started immediately then had issues on the second start.
The FSM should have a troubleshooting section for the wiring connector and throttle body. It does still sound like it has a vacuum leak, but hard to know with the throttle body acting strange.
The fuel fumes may be the engine flooding with an incorrect throttle position reading. Do you see...
