Dead in the water.....need advice on what to do with my bum motor. 2006 Montero

There are also ATK Reman engines from JEGS. https://www.jegs.com/i/ATK-Engines/059/263/10002/-1 These are long blocks that you move some parts from your current engine or get replacements from RockAuto. Where in the Southeast are you?

My new (to me) 2003 Montero Limited Build

I think I bought them in 2018 and had 1 burn out last Fall. I usually get them off RockAuto or when they are on sale. Incandescent bulb quality has gone down a lot in the last few years with LEDs and fluorescents. I think the ones in my ceiling fan burn out every 4 months.

TPMS light shouldn't be difficult if it has the correct communication. DRL fog can also be done with some wiring and relays. Wire Fog as DRL The all lights on my be an issue that is wired into the vehicle harness. US law required that the high beam and low beams cannot be activated at the...

My new (to me) 2003 Montero Limited Build

Looks like it is in good shape. Grab an FSM from my signature if you don't already have one. I would also recommend better lights, but I'm not sure if the housings are able to handle HID temperatures. I have been using the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra bulbs which put out a lot of light. If...

Air Lockers - OEM vs ARB?

Done digging for now. PartSouq lists numbers and diagrams, but nothing in stock. Perhaps some diffs and pumps make their way to salvage yards, perhaps those salvage yards have access to eBay, perhaps someone is as crazy enough to try it. I have not confirmed any part numbers or any...

Air Lockers - OEM vs ARB?

May just be my work firewall, but this doesn't open for me. Also, I have become aware that the OEM rear locker is available on Gen 4 3.2 DI-D models in Germany. I am curious what components are available and what the install would require since they are LHD models with an automatic. I know...

Air Lockers - OEM vs ARB?

This is a good point, but may not be true depending on the person, geographic location, or wheeling expectations. It also may be a cost or budget issue. It is hard for some to justify a $200-300 air compressor on a $5-10k vehicle without installing lockers. Anyone installing a locker would...

Air Lockers - OEM vs ARB?

ARB makes a very good locker, but you are at the mercy of the compressor and lines for it to function. Most manufacturers have moved towards electronic style lockers to reduce the bill of materials for production or advanced traction control systems. The OEM air locker has the benefit of the...

You may have more luck with a direct message than posting in the thread.

Gen 3 ...anybody out there running 34” tires?

Stock Gen 3 can fit most 33" without lifting. OME, Ironman 4x4, and Bilstein/Lovells kits usually do 40mm lift which results somewhere around 1.5-2.0" depending on the spring duty used. These should fit most 34" tires and some 35". I would not use spacers as those have issues with CV axle...

New guy here...Hi everybody (3G Montero)

Grab an FSM from the link in my signature. The 2003 and 2005 versions will work for yours with the 3.8l engine. Traction Control lights active are a pending check engine light. They clear when ignition is turned off. You will have to get a code reading while the lights are active to see the...

    Montero gen 3 coolant leak

I would invest in an inspection camera to look into the small spaces for the leak. Mine has saved me countless hours by showing me exactly where a leak is before I disassemble everything. Since you are already down there, I would suspect it is the o-ring for the pipe in the back of the water...

What type of LSD did Gen2's have?

The LSD oil additive is a requirement to increase slip on the clutches during normal driving so that it does not create a chatter effect. Without the slip from the oil additive, the clutches would attempt to grab more aggressively while turning. The Hybrid differentials of later models had a...

What type of LSD did Gen2's have?

I believe the Gen 2 models only had a rear air locker available. Others here should have more information.

    Gen. III brake pads

I used OEM the last time I changed mine, but I will try Raybesto from RockAuto this next time. I used their rotors and have had great use for the price.

    Trans dipstick level

I would also suspect that there is oil in the mechatronics unit and throughout the system. I would be inclined to set them to the dipstick level, as too much oil can damage the torque converter and cause foaming if it reaches the rotating assembly. You do have to have the engine at idle once...

What did you do to your Mitsubishi today?

Pretty much all shipping routes are in chaos right now. They have to follow new paths in case they need virus contact tracking and many employees are working from home or quarantined. Some stuff I get in 2 days. Others take a few weeks. I haven't had an issue with RockAuto yet, though.

What did you do to your Mitsubishi today?

Managed to fit a small Rhino Rack. Just wanted a place to store firewood, wet items, and some fuel. I'll have to take more pictures with gear later.
