    Transmission Drain Plug

I would check the PartSouq website as well. They should have information on the OEM part.

XLS Open Diff to Hybrid LSD Options

For Gen 3, it is preferable to locate a complete differential with the LSD. They were made in 4.9 for XLS/4-spd and 4.3 for Limited/5-spd. I do not know if other gear ratios fit in the housings. If you find a labeled 01-02 XLS "Hyblid" Diff, it will bolt in place of your current one with no...

    2001 Limited trans wont shift

I would check the bracket on the transmission. Just remove the cable where that nut is and move the lever by hand. If stiff there, I would try the WD-40 as mentioned. Watched the video. There is also an adjustment procedure on page 23Aa-25 of the FSM. The PRND light is following the movement...

    2001 Limited trans wont shift

The FSM (grab one from my link if you don't have one) shows that the shifter cable goes from the shift lever to the transmission housing. The lock cable goes to the brake pedal and steering column. Steering angle must be appropriate and the brake must be pressed to release the lock function...

    2001 Limited trans wont shift

Have you checked the transmission fluid level? There is a dipstick next to the one for the engine. This should not affect the actual movement of the lever, but will affect the ability of the system to disengage the park pawl. There are also 2 cables for the AT shifter in the Limited/5-speed...

    New fuel pump

If it is already going to be out, and the Denso pump is rated correctly, I would put it in and keep the other as an emergency spare. I put a Denso pump in my 3.8l last year that has been running well. RockAuto has new Denso pumps as well.

My new (to me) 2003 Montero Limited Build

Some have attempted welding with minimal success. Luso Overland sells some replacements that he had made. You can use those if it is enough of a problem.

My new (to me) 2003 Montero Limited Build

There is also an issue with the exhaust manifolds cracking. When this happens, you may get some smoke in the engine bay as well. Especially after changing spark plugs and seals, and the oil runs into the cylinder.

My new (to me) 2003 Montero Limited Build

Make sure all the butterfly valves and screws are there. Some members have deleted this assembly completely for a loss of low end torque. I just put a drop of Permatex Orange thread locker on the end of the threads to keep them there. Make sure you have a good JIS (Vessel is a favorite)...

    How did I manage this?

Hard to say, but it definitely looks like it got dropped or impacted somewhere.

    Brake proportioning valve

I would think that if it is a full mechanical device, it could be replaced by a manual proportioning valve. They are used in race cars to adjust front/rear or left/right brake bias...

Swapping 5-speed AT into 2002 Montero XLS?

I know it could be done. We do this at work every day for application testing. We use a CAN Gateway Bus and manually create all the correct signals for PCM to TCM communication. It is also extremely time consuming and difficult. More so for those without knowledge of CAN programming. The...

    Its been a while

I have been keeping an eye on some remanufactured 3.8l engines. I know ATK sells 3.8l engines through Jegs for about $4k. https://www.jegs.com/i/ATK-Engines/059/263/10002/-1 Otherwise, the Lexus is the best one of that group. The GX is known as the Toyota LC Prado in other markets. Solid...

Swapping 5-speed AT into 2002 Montero XLS?

The 5 speed is a completely different setup. It uses a different transfer case, electronics, and computer. The Super Select is programmed into the transmission and transfer case. As far as I know, you would need to change the transmission and transfer case along with the engine flash to get...

    Zip Ties

Factories use zip ties to secure components already. Gen 3 has reusable ones with a release for holding wires. Besides, if Velcro is good enough for NASA, zip ties are good enough for us. I now recommend using the Velcro(Hook and Loop) cable tie material where possible. They come in various...

    Its been a while

I largely separate the Gen 3 (Chassis V60, NM/NP) into these groups: 01-02 XLS - 3.5L engine with 4spd transmission and manual transfer case, 4.9 Gears. 01-02 Limited - 3.5L engine with 5spd transmission and electronic transfer case, 4.3 Gears. 03+ (Limited) - 3.8L with 5spd transmission and...

    Gasket set and bearings help...

I have used the DNJ intake gasket set, they are good quality steel. Fel-Pro seem to have some issues and some of the Mahle sets are now made by Fel-pro. PartSouq should have some of the gaskets. PartSouq I ordered exhaust and intake manifold ones last year. They do not have the complete...

Dead in the water.....need advice on what to do with my bum motor. 2006 Montero

As a last ditch effort to save the motor, or get it to clear the blockage, you could attempt to run Seafoam in the oil. It can help to clear sludge and any contaminants that are blocking oil passages. Not the best solution, but won't hurt to try if you plan to get a motor anyway. It may also...
