How in the hell is an S-Pod BantamX $915.00!

FYI, I reported on it a bit here, five years ago when I had it in my T100 before moving it over to my Tacoma in 2016, which reminded me that it’s been around for a while though software is updated regularly, and the hardware has had a few updates too. I’ll find some pictures, but it’s so small...

How in the hell is an S-Pod BantamX $915.00!

I’ve used the Neutrino Blackbox on motorcycles and in my Tacoma. Full disclosure, I know the developer/vendor, but it’s a quality product from a serious, committed supplier, and has been on the market with continuous enhancement for several years. www.neutrinoblackbox.com

    2020 Ford Transit AWD

I had a chance to check out an Owl Van tire carrier on a Transit, with a 245/75-16 KO2 spare mounted up. Nice piece of kit, mounts to the door hinges. I’m not sure it’s available still from Owl as they seem to be focusing on Sprinters, but Aluminess has one too.

Tundra TRD Pro for first overland vehicle?

To the OP, isn’t the TRD Pro only available as CrewMax? That 5.5’ bed just seems too short to live in, even if you store a lot of gear in the (roomy) cab. If you want a Tundra, I’d start with a DoubleCab and 6.5’ bed ... skip the TRD Pro. As for 1/2 ton vs 3/4 ton, I myself drive a Tacoma and...

    Basic van buildout questions

@luthj and @Cummins_expo thanks for the comments about 1x3’s and plywood cabinet construction. I see so many linear feet of 2x4 and even 2x6 and 2x8 in some build reports and video’s I think even my EcoBoost will be struggling to haul it around (I have ordered a Transit). I’d rather use my...

    Basic van buildout questions

Thanks for the comments. I am sure wood can be made to work, but I’m curious about alternatives. Paul the Punter’s build (well, built for him by the guys in BC) are gorgeous but seem way overkill. Though I’m sure I’d appreciate the workmanship and details, and I got some good ideas from his bike...

    Basic van buildout questions

After decades of mostly tent camping, out of cars, SUV’s and lately pickups, with brief detours into a pop-top Westfalia, a FlipPac, and a soft RTT, plus a fair amount of motorcycle camping and a few backpacking trips, we have recently ordered a van. The goal is to have secure, weatherproof...

84 Ford F250 diesel 4x4 with 4 wheel pop up camper

I spoke on the phone with the seller and this truck sounds like it’s been well-loved and maintained by a knowledgeable owner. I’ve decided it isn’t for us ... despite the appealing simplicity of the older truck and powertrain, I realized we’re kinda spoiled by modern conveniences but it seems...

    Series 80 questions

My ‘93 (sold a while) ago had cloth upholstery which is much more durable than the optional leather, also non -power seats. No airbag driver or passenger on the ‘93, and R12 refrigerant in the AC. Also, the earlier years with 3 row seating had a center lap belt in the 3rd row which allowed full...

Subaru Forester or Outback...Which one and why?

For what it’s worth, I had an ‘04 (second gen) Forester XT with the 2.5 turbo and 5 speed manual for about ten years, from new. Stock except for Primitive Racing skid plates. My summary: very good on rough dirt roads, especially after adding the skid plates which gave me confidence to attack...

    Wireless camera iPad integration experiences?

@Shovel Thanks for your comments. I have been a GPS skeptic for a while, since owning an older Garmin with a clunky user interface and non lifetime maps. So I switched to using my phone: always with me, multi-functional, etc. And I have no problem finding roads and may hiking/MTB trails...

    Midsize truck with manual transmission

This is hardly mid-size but pretty appealing: Power Wagon with Hemi and 6 speed. https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/d/san-lorenzo-hard-to-find-4x4-dodge-2500/7101649940.html Not too far from me ...

    Midsize truck with manual transmission

When my wife and I got married (30+ years ago) she had an MT 2WD pickup and I had an AT 4 WD truck. Soon afterwards we bought a VW van (MT) and agreed we didn’t need two pickups and a van. But which one to sell? I wanted to keep my truck, so I used the injury argument to justify keeping the...

    Need opinions on Tacoma

Help me out here, what’s wrong with the $8500 asking price? This one has 265K, $11500: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/ctd/d/sacramento-2006-toyota-tacoma-trd-off/7104511429.html Another one, private party, lower miles, 2WD, $17500 - agree this is a crack pipe price...

    Thoughts: best Toyota pick up

I’ve never towed, but pretty well-loaded my 3rd gen always has power to spare. If you downshift and rev it. And I have driven over 10000’ passes many times in both trucks. I’ll agree that the 3.4 T100, in third gear, had a more relaxed feel, but certainly not faster. Anyway, the great thing is...

Hard-sided wedge style pop-up camper shell currently in development/testing in the mountains of Wyoming

@WY_CC so far I’m very impressed not just by your design and prototype, but also the thinking behind it. As the owner of a 5’ bed Tacoma who doesn’t really want a new truck, but acknowledges that a longer bed may provide enough extra room to get past that tipping point of sufficient useful...

Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

Auto-correct is smarter than we give it credit for :>) But assuming you meant “overlanding” I think only the word is new. I took a long trip, mostly off pavement, from California to Alaska and Northwest Territories in the eighties. National Forest and Forestry Roads in the Lower 48 and BC and...

Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

I’ve been watching the Icelandic police drama Trapped on TV. Filmed on location in Iceland, mostly in a small town and surrounding rural area. Lots of scenes in cars, with cars and just vehicles in the background. There are lots of Japanese SUV’s and pickups, quite a few with big lifts, huge...

    Thoughts: best Toyota pick up

Wait, 3rd gen (2016+) Tacoma similar getup and go to a 3.4? Maybe at 1500 -2000 rpm ... but the 3rd gen has 100 more peak HP and is way faster in almost any real world situation.
