I checked out the build and video's, VERY helpful, thank you for that!
So it looks like the rear pivot point lets the subframe pivot left and right while at the same time keeps it from falling forward.
Then the two pivot points about halfway up the subframe let the subframe pivot frontward and...
So I am in the process of an overland camper aluminum build on the back of an LMTV.
This thread is helpful but last updated in 2014...
Hoping for some ideas for a subframe for my camper to keep it from getting ripped apart while going down a trail.
Any Companys out there selling a kit or pieces...
Gotcha... Just thinking how heavy plywood is and by using a 4x8 sheets of 6061 aluminum (referred to sometimes as aircraft grade) it would be alot lighter and just as strong. I get its expensive but.........
Let me throw this out there.... Why not just skin it with aluminum with nothing other than the frame behind it, then on the backside insulate it with spray in foam or foam board and then skin the inside with whatever. Seems like that would be a pretty light and insulated way to do it. Don't...
So I am getting ready to start a whole new trailer/camper project. My M416 camper/trailer (linked at the bottom) has been great but I need one more, but more to come on that.
For the new trailer/camper project I am going to use 2x2 ¼ wall aluminum for the frame.
I am going to use 4x8 14 gauge...
Thank you, I think it came out pretty well.
Looking for easy peasy at this point. I have 4 linear actuators on order that are 20" stroke, 120 #'s each, with a speed of 30mm.....
This will make life real simple.... I'll post the install when they come in and I have the chance to mess with them...
Just from surfing the net the best thing I can find so far is the 3M's VHB tape - Very High Bond Tape:

Has anyone used this stuff to hold panels...
I purchased my struts from lift support depot. They have a pretty good calculator to help you out, worked for my lid....

You can see how I installed them on my M416 build link below -
I have been surfing the internet looking at the M1078 LMTV's for a while now and within the last 30 days have gotten a lot more serious about purchasing one.
I just finished my Jeep and M416 trailer builds which are linked below on my signature line....
I have been looking at all the upgrades...
I did not build in a water tank. I usually carry a few cases of bottled water and a 5 gallon jug of water I use for misc.. Works for the amount of time I usually go out at once.
I am not sure of the elevation I have been at while it (shower) was in use but I would say it would be more than fine...
I have no issue with putting the tent in the up position, the annoying part is getting it all the way down.
I am leaning more towards the linear actuators..... still have to bat the idea around for a while...
Thought about that, but the struts I have now only get it 85% of the way up, which is right where I wanted it so that it wouldn't be too tough to get back down...
If I went with a lower poundage it would be even tougher to push it the rest of the way up..
Thank you...
I thought about pneumatic but I am not crazy about routing the airlines and my compressor is the ARB one in my engine compartment.
With the battery right there in the tongue box I was leaning more towards linear actuators but I am still not committed to that yet....

So with some good usage out of the trailer now I have one complaint which is trying to retract the rack back down.
As for now my wife and I get at either end and pull down on the rack, and after a little wiggling it locks into the down position.
I am looking at a few options:
1) Some type of...
I used the H.F. one and rolled on some cheap bedliner from the autoparts store.
It holds all my electrical stuff and I put an outlet on the outside so the box can remain locked.
I might end up making one so it fits all my needs, pondering that idea.
