Setting a Range Rover Classic up for expedition travel

Agreed, the HVAC sucks, which is one of the reasons I would prefer a 95. So I am perplexed by this statement: The AC in the 87-94 RRC will not keep up with the Arizona desert heat in the summer, and in the winter the heat cooks the driver and freezes the passenger. The 95 has a much better...

Giving kids a bath while camping - solutions?

One thing we did was make sure ours had socks and long pants on. That made the cleanup more of a wet wipe thing. Bathing kids every day is not good for their skin anyway. One of the advantages of having a girl is they don't get as muddy as boys. I remember Mom having to hose me off before...

Because kids don't remember their best day watching TV...

When I was working and my wife was in grad school, there was probably a little too much TV babysitting in our house. Fortunately our kid actually ignored it a lot of the time and played with toys. Now she is 9 and she watches maybe 2 hours a week. Her favorite network is the Food Network...

Because kids don't remember their best day watching TV...

I would have to say that would be exceptional. Anyway, here is the ad. I posted it on Facebook and my sister responded her best day of watching TV was when Voltron came on.

Because kids don't remember their best day watching TV...

The Arizona Game and Fish Department had a billboard in Tucson recently showing kids holding fish up with the title "Because kids don't remember their best day watching TV..." I think it is an awesome ad, and at the last family gathering I brought it up. Everyone agreed except the husband of...

    Four Corners Oct 2010

Sorry about the hiatus, had another trip to go on! Back to Chaco, the obligatory picture of our campsite with the ruin in the background: The campground host, Dale, had one of those Jeep Liberty's with the diesel engine - it sounded way cool. He also had a really nice telescope which he...

Changes to Flex Spending Accounts in 2011

We had a benefits fair yesterday, and learned that OTC meds can still be covered if you get a prescription. The FSA account administrator told us it would be worthwhile getting one for our allergy meds since they are kind of expensive. All we have to do is fax the prescription into their...

Dear Abby, My wife keeps sending me Craigslist ads for Range Rover Classics.

Is she trying to tell me something?

    Four Corners Oct 2010

Day 3, Junior Ranger Express We got up extra early so I could go to the auto parts store to find a radiator cap. If there was a real auto parts store in Grants, I didn't find it. I had to be content with Checker. I walked in and was greeted by the clerk. I said, "I need a radiator cap"...

    Four Corners Oct 2010

Day 2, up to El Malpais In the morning, we topped off the radiator with some of our drinking water and headed north. Reserve, NM is a place dear to my heart. A few years ago, we stopped for gas there. Not only was it a place where you did not have to pay first to pump your gas, but when you...

    Four Corners Oct 2010

Day 1 The Dormobile, with its 95 hp, is not very fun on the Interstate, so we sought to minimize travel on it. The long leg was the 90 miles from Tucson to Willcox. From there, we headed north on Ft. Grant Road to Apple Annie's Produce Farm. After getting some fresh veggies for our trip...

    Four Corners Oct 2010

My daughter had a week long fall break in October, so we took the opportunity to visit several places around the Four Corners. This was our 3rd or 4th attempt at visiting Chaco Canyon. We have tried 3 or 4 times before on spring breaks in March, but the weather was always either in the 20s...

    Muddy Maze District Trip

Nice trip report. Looks like you were there when we were at Chaco Canyon. Lots of rain! That bentonite clay shelf road is scary in the rain. We were with a geologist who was freaking out, since he has seen betonite clay collapse in the rain.

Top Reasons Why Your Wife/Girlfriend or Family Do Not Go On Trips with You?

My wife broke both axles on the Dormobile within a few seconds. I was mad, but I got over it pretty quickly. 40 year old Rover axles which probably led a hard life are not known for their strength. It certainly made it easier to spend the money for a Salisbury.

Top Reasons Why Your Wife/Girlfriend or Family Do Not Go On Trips with You?

Me too! I told her John was selling his Dormobile, she said, "Oh! Lets buy it!" She would rather pee in the woods than use a campground toilet - she says they are always too dirty.
