    95 RRC LWB question

I did not bother to change the shifter - I just left the lever in place. Come to think of it, I may have left the solenoid in place, too, and just removed the plunger from it. It has been too long for me to remember.

    95 RRC LWB question

The transfer case solenoid went bad on our 93, and I just removed it. I know when I can and cannot shift it. The 89 didn't even have this feature.

    95 RRC LWB question

I have never owned one, but the 95 is the one I would want. The air conditioning works way better, but then I live in Arizona. Our 89 and 93 just could not keep the cabin cool in the summer if you were stuck in traffic. Also, the heater hoses are way easier to change. The seats all have...

Nalgene 1/2 off Sale Today Only

Just went back to the plastic Nalgene after a stint with stainless. Even after a couple of months of use there was still this metal taste in my water. Of course we bought new Nalgenes a week before we saw this thread.

That is what my wife says, and she used to be a school teacher.

I don't think they existed when I was a kid. When she was 4, we were in the visitor center at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP and a ranger askied if she would like to become a Jr Ranger. It was all over after that. The programs are typically better at the smaller places - at Yosemite they...

    Open mouth, insert foot...

Like many students in the Tucson area, my 9-year-old daughter has a week long Fall Break. We took advantage to take a trip up to the Four Corners area. We like to make our trips educational, so we visited 6 NPS sites and she earned her Junior Ranger Badge at each one. She worked hardest on...

    Hiking Rickshaw

We went through this. I carried mine in a backpack carrier until she got too heavy. Then there was this period of a few years when she was too heavy to carry but any but the shortest of hike was not practical. By the time she turned 7 she was starting to be able to do significantly more. She...

    FS: Perma-Cool Electric Fan 13" p/n 19113, 2650 cfm, new

This is a brand new 13" electric fan. I bought it 5 years ago for the air conditioning project on my Dormobile, but it sat on my shelf all the time. Now that I finally got the project underway, I found it does not fit for this application. It has never been used, all I did was open the box to...

Cupron socks for the Chilean Miners

The story of the miner's rescue is fascinating on many levels. One in the clothing category that may have an application for some overlanders was this: http://www.cupron.com/Cupron-News-Antimicrobial/ Jeffrey Gabbay, the founder of Cupron Inc. in Richmond, Va., supplied socks made with copper...

    3.9 v 4.2

I would love to do this on some vehicle for just the reason you mentioned, becoming intimately familiar with the way an engine runs. Although I am dragging around a 5000 lb brick with 95bhp SAE @ 4500rpm and 134lbft SAE @ 1750rpm, so I am intimately aware when the carb or ignition are not...

Google Android software and hardware: Post here

I have a Motorola Droid which I bought last spring. Ever since it was upgraded to 2.2, the WiFi has been acting strange. I turn it off to save power, and when look at the phone a few minutes or an hour later, it has turned itself back on. It is annoying because it kills my battery life and it...

    1968 Overland Archives

Thanks for sharing that. I am sure there are a lot of historic expeditions documented only in a diary gathering dust on some shelf or a cardboard box full of mementos in someone's attic. Documentation can be as much work as the expedition.

    Swaybar removal pro and con

Doesn't the track width enter into that equation? The track of a Series LR is about 4 inches narrower than a RRC/Defender/Disco I, which in turn is significantly narrower than a full sized pickup. I wonder how high it was on that Suzuki Samurai CR tested? :sombrero:

    Swaybar removal pro and con

According to the 109" coachbuilder's drawing I have (dated 1964), the CG of the Land Rover 109 was 31" off the ground, and there is also the proviso that a 45 degree tipping angle of an unladen vehicle must be maintained.

    Swaybar removal pro and con

I had one of those early RRCs, and it made me nervous at first. Then I saw an article about a school in the UK that taught chauffeurs how to drive RRCs in a get-away-from-the-bad-guys situation. They said that while the body rolled a lot, it was actually very, very hard to flip. There were...

Going in head first: Ham License

A lot of folks in our club have both CB and 2 meter radios and they have a separate antenna for each radio. FWIW, my 2m handheld works better than my vehicle mounted CB in terms of clarity over distance, as long as I am outside the truck when I use it.

2 month trip around the west

Man, asking that question is like asking which of your kids is your favorite. Here is an itinerary I would consider for the Albuquerque to Las Vegas leg. I could come up with many more if you don't like this one. I assume you mean the Vegas in Nevada, not New Mexico, although the one in New...
