    Tents, Trailers and Dogs

A good tent would work but in your weather a trailer might be better? A trailer with access to the kitchen might be better than a tear drop in cold weather? A small airstream or similar would be great too :) Get a good pad/dog bed for dog and blankets. Dogs get cold too. I donated an old...

    New BFG All Terrain Design?

It looks good to me. The least on the outside look bigger and a maybe better channel for water to get pushed out. Maybe they will have a stronger sidewall? Tire design technology has come a long way in 20 years.

    1968 Chevy K10 SWB Overlander

What a great truck and history of your grampa. I'd keep it a stock as possible but upgrade front brakes to disc and get a new master cylinder and maybe add power steering. It is more valuable all stock! There are lots of other trucks with a Cummins engine around.

    Washboard, my kryptonite

Lower air pressure is your friend on washboards. Experiment with what speed works best and watch out for crowned roads especially on turns :) Can't really expect your expo set-up to drive like a Baja race truck but you can try :)

    new Chevy Colorado

I hope the put a cast iron front diff on the ZR2 model if the make it. They could also put in the low ratio T-case like the one used in the H3

    285 vs 265

What axle gears do you have? That is a consideration if going to 33" tires.

    Vehicle air conditioning really necessary?

I have AC but don't use it much on dirt roads or rough trails as I like to have the windows open and also hear what is going on outside the truck. I have seen people driving with the AC on and didn't know they had a flat tire from a sidewall cut because they couldn't hear the air coming out...

Sleeping platform: How to get started?

Right now I just have the flat floor in my 4R. Here are a few other 4R Platform ideas from the portal (not my truck) http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/9576-Show-us-your-Toyota-4runner-tacoma-or-truck/page265

Sleeping platform: How to get started?

First you have to decide on the height of the platform and if you are going to want built in drawers etc. or use other containers/boxes (Action Packer/Pelican Cases Rubbermaid Totes) for storage. Make a mock-up with a piece of plywood to see how much head-room you need. Try it out with a rough...

How much recovery gear do you keep in your daily driver?

I keep basic tools, first aid kit, jumper cables, tow strap, tire plug kit, serpentine belt, small shovel and an air compressor in my 4R all the time. I carry a high lift, extra tools and large shovel on serious trips. This reminds me to refresh/check my emergency survival supplies like water...

At what point to do you give up on a D1? Can they be made reliable?

Get a 3rd one for more spares or sell both and get a newer vehicle?? It depends on how much time you want to spend tinkering vs out exploring. Greater reliability=less worry and more fun to me. It is a tuff call on when to give up on vehicles because you get committed and in deeper with...
