    re power questions especially 4g63

more thoughtful nonsense on this re power. The mitsu engines as an upgrade i cannot stomach. the 1uz i have in an old lexus and its a revver. is not real substantial below 2K. so how often do you hit 2500 rpm on the trail? the later 470 is a good engine but who cares. its a pig. got one of...

Gne 1 suspension upgrade whacked camber numbers like...8 degrees

again. i was successful today in getting close to spec. i ended the day with 5/8" steel shim, one side got 2 mm of shim additional. the 5/8 likely will get a tack weld to hold it still. it drives a bit better. wheels are close to vertical within a degree as measured at the hub. caster is all...

'99 Montero - Clunk noise when turning

i vote its sway bar related. they clunk and are irritating as heck...but an easily overlooked source of the clunking.

Gne 1 suspension upgrade whacked camber numbers like...8 degrees

As a general rule i would not recommend this upgrade to any without very confident mechanical skills and a willingness to experiment and develop the idea fully. You will need patience, a real concrete reason to do this and the skill to learn about and experiment with vehicular suspensions and...

Gne 1 suspension upgrade whacked camber numbers like...8 degrees

sorry for the lack of info. i've been keeping a running monologue on another thread about misadventures I've been having. i took, or planned to take the entire front suspension, steering and differential from a 94 sr series. i was successful in getting the gen 2 suspension and the steering...

Gne 1 suspension upgrade whacked camber numbers like...8 degrees

upper shims in place , migrated from old mount. will be fabing some from 1/2 inch plate today to try get back into the neighborhood of proper adj. just seems odd that the adj. should be so far out when transferring all the same parts as a unit.

Gne 1 suspension upgrade whacked camber numbers like...8 degrees

completed my gen 2 suspension upgrade today . this has been a slow process..even for me. changed my mind several times , lost my mind a few more times, thought about packing a few essentials and moving to the islands ,,,usual stuff. finally finished today and not in a pleasant way. im just...

    Wheeling video part meh.

that.....looks exxpensive to wheel in that manner. but videos are representative and clear. i think you have a talent enough to pursue this avenue with vigor. Ground clearance shots; watching donnikers pass under the rig with no damage is nice to see, operator interaction with the viewer...

anyone else have problems with axle swaps?

thank you for this! clarification the rig and differential are gen 1. (with the intent to load the gen 2 differential also, but changed plans mid job due to irritability of mechanic. thus no need to consider axles untill i ran into this problem). donor: 94 sr auto 3.5. but diff is still on...

for those retrofitting a gen 1 with gen 2 suspension goodies....

further. when testing your steering arc, the travel of the steering components through their "arc", there is a chance the driver side tierod will contact the differential support arm. the steel , black arm that mounts below the radiator and then to the side of the differential housing. i used...

for those retrofitting a gen 1 with gen 2 suspension goodies....

Again. this time the right hand axle. the axle cup with the 4 bolt holes to attach to the inner axle. on my gen2 axle they did not line up. they were about 2mm off at each hole. center cup was right on. here is a tip: in my case i was exasperated and just overbore the holes in the axle cup...

Alignment and stance woes following front end refresh

he means to pull back on the joint attached to the splined shaft at the steering gear. this looks like a u joint if you pull the rubber back. remove the bolt completely, grasp firmly and dont let go till she slides back. wiggle the ujoint pry with device if necessary it'll come along. the...

    re power questions especially 4g63

this is my opinion, so take it for what it's worth, the 4G swap is best left to the Mighty Max and the 2 door Montero chassis. It's mostly a weight thing. If you were making a light weight trail rig out of a sport, chopping off panels and stuff, or a truggy of any kind, i'd roll with a 2.4...

    Opinions on Febest parts?

i got triple 5's from japan. see how that works. i'm looking into building my own upper, with heim joints and a rebuildable ball joint with a 15 degree socket. lowers, i'm most definitely going to reuse my gen 1 stuff , slot the b.j. holes for lateral adjustment and try rebuildables there too...

anyone else have problems with axle swaps?

gen 2 r.h. axle onto gen one inner axle. bolts misaligned by roughly2mm. common problem? i just have not heard about? my solution is to remove inner axle and rotate outer axle cup and bore new holes. is there a better solution? ive had actually quite a few little issues like this on the...
