    new to me old town

Although I prefer fiberglass, Royalex is a very good material. 303 can be found at most army navy surplus, paddling shops, outdoor shops, those tyoe places. Just call and ask for 303 uv protectant. Post (or search archives) here for Royalex resto questions...

Costa Rica and back, 7 months on the road DONE!

Cool, indeed. Luv Suburbans in general. And although I haven't driven south of the Mexico border and chasing rivers to paddle, can relate to wave chasing in foreign lands. Excellent blog.

    new to me old town

Yeah, looks like Royalex, alright. Use an armorall type UV protectant product on it called 303. However, do NOT use Armorall itself; its not good for the lakes or rivers. 303 will gloss up the vinyl skin a bit and help protect from further uv damage. Try to store it out of the sun to help...

I don't see a lot about Pinzgauers here?!?!

Yeah, from what my friend indicates, they have a more specific forum out there in the world wide internets. They are really cool machines. And then there is the Volvo that looks really similar to the Pinz. I think I've only ever seen one on GoWesty's Baja trip photo albums. Here's our little...

Off road day trip in BC

Got out this weekend with a new lifted Tacoma, Jedd. On the advice of JFarsang, we explored Vedder Mountain in lower BC. Thanks J. I'll be back soon with mountain bike and white water boat. It was one of those perfect outings where you explore some limits of your rig without suffering any...

    Park Tools!

yes, I do love my Park tools, but... My problem is that instead of fixing a broken bike, I grab one of my other bikes (or kayaks, or skates, or 4x4) and go for a ride, dropping the broken bike off at my buddie's shop on the way, to be repaired.

    Awnings again.

I have an old Thule 8' awning, sourced by Carefree out of Colorado. Its hardcased, sits high on my van and takes a beating from The Pacific Northwest trees and keeps on ticking. It deploys easily, but i haven't actually had it tested in much wind yet. $200 used in good shape from a river boatin...

Bought my first expedition rig today

Sweet rig! I've always wanted one. Love the flippac idea. I am in Bellingham, where I used to have a kayak shop. I've put a few kayaks on the Alaska Ferry for customers to pick up at the other end. Do they let you do that with cars? My wife can drive me to Seattle to get it when she goes to...

    29ers are yesterday's news

I just road my Dawg (26" with 5" front and rear) for the first time in a while after riding my Unit 29er hardtail all winter and let me tell you, it handles like a dream compared to the Unit. I was flickin it around like a BMX bike. Wow!

Official "My name is..." "And I ride..."

I need to update this picture; xchange unit 29er for Pahoehoe I've got 5 bikes. I cycle thru them every couple of years. This year it was time to replace my hardtail, a Kona Pahoehoe which I bought new in '98. I replaced it with a Kona Unit 29er hardtail, which I added gears to. I'm likin the...

    29ers are yesterday's news

I am so yesterday I really like my Kona Unit (added gears) 29er hard tail. I tend to ride hardtail in the winter, saving my Kona Dawg primo or Kona Stinky Deluxe for the dryer seasons. After a photo album full of xrays, I stopped hucking when its wet out. At 5'11" 225 (BEEFY!) I've been...

Commercial roof rack for canoe carrying?

How long are your load bars? How wide is the boat? Thule add$ up in a hurry, but you get a 3rd bar in between the two and attatch a thule basket to them. I used to have the 78" load bars just for that reason. Heck, I've carried a spare tire, jerry cans, fire wood, paddling gear, all sorts of...
