The Ford sounds very much like my truck: 400m, t18 granny transmission, np205, Dana 44 front and 9" rear. I have the stock 3.50 gears, which actually work pretty well for east coast fire road/highway travel.
I was recently reviewing your "do-it-all dodge" thread in the hopes of replicating your...
Metcalf, great build and awesome trip report! This and rango have to be two of my favorite builds of all time.
Would you mind telling me a bit more about your buddy's old ford? I have a '78 f150 shortbed that I think would look pretty cool with an aussie (think PCOR) tray. I don't want to muck...
Thank you for taking the time to document your modifications. I don't own a truck camper but I find your work very interesting. And as a fellow woodworker, I really enjoyed your solutions to problems such as the spice rack and toilet riser.

Thanks for posting about your trip, cape lookout is on my must see list. We stay in the outer banks a few times a year, July would definitely be a hot time to visit.
One of the guys at the earlycj5 site just started this: http://www.beamingpix.com/ it isn't free, but for $15/year it might be good for some people. I'm not affiliated in any way, but I just thought I'd pass on a solution to stupid photobucket.
Haha everyone is a rookie at one point! You should have seen the left handed studs on my 1957 willys the first time I tried to take the wheels off! You only do that once though :)
