    Lets talk about camp lights

There are allot of places to camp were you won't be bothered, campgrounds just aren't that place if too much light or too many people bothers you.

    Lets talk about camp lights

Our primitive campgrounds get crowded just like the others. the only difference is they don't have hook ups, just a bunch of tents instead of RVs. If you want quiet you have to get out into the woods to get away or a hotel with good walls.

    Lets talk about camp lights

I guess it depends on what you call crazy neighbor crap, I am not talking about being disrespectful I am talking about this. Out my the state campgrounds are getting like this and even the federal ones are packed. This is our Newest State Park, Echo Bluff, the other 2 pics are just random off...

    Lets talk about camp lights

I agree with you about the noise and quiet hours, and you can even include light (to an extent) in the quiet hours but up until that time, you have to deal with it. Campgrounds are a great places to meet up with family and friends. When we camp in campgrounds we often have visitors as do many...

    Lets talk about camp lights

I like light available (not necessarily turned on) around my camp spot, especially when setting up. I spent years in a Light Infantry Unit and my days of working limited visibility and night vison are long behind me. I have a nice little rechargeable LED lantern that throughs out a decent...

    Next generation snatch block

when I first got my winch I was worried about rust on the cable. I'd wipe it down with oil almost every time I went out. That lasted about a year since then I haven't even cleaned it other than occasionally wiping it down with a dry rag when I re-spool it. My cable has not rusted at all. I...

    Next generation snatch block

I have no broken strands but one pinched spot and the cable is almost 18 years old. Some of us take longer to come around than others. I suppose someday I could be rolling down the trial with a rope on my winch. But I still just can't except the idea of a wet, muddy, gritty rope rolled up on...

    Next generation snatch block

I know more and more are using rope for their winch, I just have issues with it. I just can't get past rolling up a dirty, gritty, wet rope back onto a winch, it is just not going to happen with me. If I saw it frayed or fuzzy, faded or whatever I would assume it has issues. I may be over...

    Next generation snatch block

I have polyurethane cargo straps and recovery straps, they don't last. I was consider rope but last weekend turned into a mud fest, my cable and recovery strap was dragged through mud and gravel for over an hour pulling out another vehicle. When I got home it was quoted in mud and gravel...

    Next generation snatch block

I just can't get past the idea of having a dirty wet rope rolled up on my winch rotting and molding. With a soft shackles you can keep them out of the weather and clean them and let him drive properly but you just can't do that with a winch rope.

    Traditional RV modified for Overlanding?

I guess it is about you wants and needs. For me a roof top tent, frig, awning and other popular "overland" accessories' are pushing the weight ceiling and may not take the abuse I might dish out. But I don't overland, what I do is back country adventure. But for extending journeys where you...

    Rope for DIY soft shackles

Cables or ropes will be at their strongest when there is a straight pull. Eventually something will break, and it will be the weakest part of the set up. It could be at hook, cable or rope. You said " Every other soft shackle shown failed at the eye (the known weak point), or didn’t fail at all...

    Rope for DIY soft shackles

watch the videos above you'll notice the top video fails at the knot and the second video fails where the wire rope / cable is put into the attachment point. the final video also fails at the weakest point which is the hook but if you watch closely you can start to see things happening at the...

    Rope for DIY soft shackles

When you tie knots and make loops things change, depending on what you are doing this may or may not be an issue. How does your shop rate rope over what the manufacture states? I have no issue with soft shackles or using rope lines at all. Loops in cable and they way it is fastened also can...

    Rope for DIY soft shackles

When you buy rope or cable it is probably rated for a straight pull. When you buy a steel shackle the shackle will be rated as a shackle (not sure about soft shackles). Do not assume that when you take cable or rope and bend it and tie it in a knots, or however the cable is held to make a loop...
