For those that carry Guns and Overlanding

I've been shooting since I was 6 years old. I spent 12 years in the Army and have spent months carrying a weapon 24/7 and there were others around me do it the same. I'm now 52 and I still shoot, so do my children. We hunt and target shoot. In all this time I have never seen an accident...

I can't believe this conversation is still going on. If you are concerned about people with guns and you see my Jeep I might have a 9mm in my right front pocket but you will have to stick your hands in my pants to find out.

If we're going to get philosophical why not discuss the difference people see in an Expedition versus overlanding versus an adventure verses camping while roading. But that would be an entirely different discussion and not relevant to this post or this part of the form.

Take another look at where you are posting. This part of the forum is titled "Power systems: 12v, Solar, Gen." Based on that I would suspect many of the people reading this post either use a generator or have some sort of Interest or thoughts about using a generator in the future. I...

the aluminum ring we're talking about here is definitely strong enough recovery, it was the Ropeye block that I believe it's only rated up to 11,000 pounds. I suppose the ropeye would be strong enough also it just doesn't seem like it has a whole lot of margarine for the unexpected.

it does look like the wood and velcro will work. Your video does do good a job showing that. It just seems odd a piece of wood in a Velcro. The ring is about $90 US which does seem like a lot for aluminum ring, but it is less expensive then the warn snatch block. it does seem like it could...

That's a copy of the Ropeye block that you posted a few post early which I said seemed interesting. I like the idea I'm just not real comfortable with the velcro and wood.

Sometimes I can work with just one pulley up for mechanical advantage. I want to pull the stuck vehicle out as straight as possible and to my back onto the winch I straighten even as possible.sometimes this is not possible with where my vehicle will fit. Often the cable will have to be...

You're supposed to show me a video so I can helps see it. I have seen enough video so friction and heat is no longer a concern. What I'm concerned about with this setup is the line coming off the ring when tension is lost, that is all at this point. I don't want Theory and I am not test...

There's nothing wrong with new things. Especially things such as apps for navigation, a better radio brighter lights or whatever. But when it comes to something like rigging up a load there are a lot of safety issues to think about. I just don't think what is being proposed here is the...

That was an easy pull up a slight incline, not a recovery. No variation in terrain and constant tension on the load. I am liking the soft shackles though. The guy rigged the load up with enough tension to keep it tight at one point he even had to support the ring with his hand. The more and...

I have to admit I do read those reviews and take them into consideration. The last purchase I made based solely on an Amazon review was a remote wireless light switch for a rental house of mine. There are other ways to get information, such as this forum, if you really want good information.

When I was a kid I remember Japan was seen as the country cheap stuff came from but that has changed greatly over the decades. China became known as the place for cheap stuff and it can change. Cheap crap sells. If there is a market it will be filled, in the future in may not be China but it...

It is piece of aluminum, it isn't new technology. If it works it is a "better mouse trap". I can't visualize this working in the situation I have been in where I would need it to work. I am hoping your video can help me actually see it work.

Are you suggesting I travel to the factory so I, as a consumer, can inspect the facility and the production of my generator from beginning to end? I don't have that much time. The best I can do is choose a brand based on my needs or wants and take chance with it. I bought a set of $20 LEDs...

If you (esp as a consumer) look for a quality product would you expect to be made in China as opposed to the other places mentioned. I am not saying China is not capable but it is seen as the place to go for cheap stuff as oppose to top quality.
