Hello All. My first post. Here is my simple custom GMC Cube Van conversion.

And that's the only thing that matters. My post was tongue in cheek because many of us at ExPo gravitate towards the very complexity you are successfully keeping at bay.

Hello All. My first post. Here is my simple custom GMC Cube Van conversion.

Very cool, welcome to ExPo. I like your simplicity and understated approach. Careful spending too much time on ExPo though. Before you know it, we will convince you to forget the last three years living in the CubeVan as is and do a complete rebuild using some much needed "overthinking"...

    Early Dakar website.

Christian, thanks for the link. I am really enjoying the photos of the early Dakars. It's great to see the grassroots beginnings of one of the worlds greatest remaining motorsports events.

How many of us bring dutch oven along?

An ExPo member, Joanne, is active on a dedicated 'Dutch Oven" forum. I've surfed into their discussion board through a link from her and swiped quite a few recipes. They're a friendly crew and are very helpful when it comes to advice.

    compact Volcano Kettles

Good to hear the capacity is adequate. Are there any gripes in function that you wish were different? I still haven't ordered one yet.

Greg, Which do you own, the Backcountry Boiler or the M-Kettle? How do you feel about the capacity, does it ever leave you wanting? I love the light weight and small size but wonder if their capacity is enough. I know that can be mitigated with a second or even third boil but maybe if...

    campsite pics..lets see um

That is a plywood homebuilt. 1speed is out of South Florida and travels back and forth to some property in NM. If you like this trailer you should see his other one. It is a custom hardside pop up built by Travis at Safari Pacific. It's too bad we no longer have Jim and his equipment around...

    stove jack?

I think that is a really great idea. I would love to see the results. There are lots of places to source stove jacks for tent use. The internet is full of photos of people using them with all manner of tent fabrics to include the venerable blue poly tarp. As far as small stoves, you can...

LR3 roof rack vs rear tire carrier question

Thanks for the pic, I was wondering how NATO cans inside were mounted. Glad to see the CARB cans work, I've been skeptical of them but never tried them. Now that you tried it out in Altar, do you think there are any circumstances traveling in NA where you'd need to tote cans on the inside...

LR3 roof rack vs rear tire carrier question

Do you have any photos of that, I'd like to see how they're mounted? Which rigs do you do that with?

    Aux Fuse Block and Mount

You're right on the money keezer, the interior of a Pelican can create it's own "ecosystem" of sorts. We keep lots of aircraft SE in Pelicans in a climate controlled building. When we take it from indoors into a high humidity environment 15-20 degrees cooler we end up collecting some moisture...

    EarthRoamer XV-JP "Northwest Edition"

Re-visiting this thread is such a treat. I start from the begining every month or two and it never fails to impress.

    compact Volcano Kettles

I can see that there may be some controversy between the two companies. They certainly look as though they were inspired by one another. I sure hope to find someone who owns one, I'm kind of excited to own one myself. They appear to be a great fit into a Maxpedition 10 by 4 bottle carrier.

http://www.mkettle.com/ http://www.theboilerwerks.com/ Does anyone have any empirical feedback on either the Backcountry Boiler or the M-Kettle? The love for the Kelly Kettle is pretty well documented here and I have always had my eye on the SS medium model until I saw these two little...

    Hood use for storage?

Sven from XXXpedition had a storage set up on the hood of his XJ for awhile. I'm not sure what was stored in there but it was no doubt 'heat resistant'.

Discussion about the expedition trailer customer... want Ritz Carlton on wheels or ??

    1) I don't use a trailer for camping, but I probably would under certain circumstance 2) I would NOT, but then again I own an XJ and a KLR650 so you can speculate how little that fashion and spending money are important to me. A fully integrated kitchen has never been on my list of wants. I...

Discussion about the expedition trailer customer... want Ritz Carlton on wheels or ??

I am no industry expert, I am only spewing impressions of a casual observer. IMHO the best way to judge the scale of the "market" for trailers upfitted with camping systems is by the number of phone calls and e-mail inquiries your company receives. Trick battery systems, solar arrays, hot...
