I have no complaints with my Optima red and yellow tops managed by an IBS DBS, and they've been stressed like any other off-road battery, to include depleting their power. I also use a BatteryMINDer. Until they prove otherwise I can see no reason to ditch them for something else...

I have a CanBack and really enjoy its flexibility. I can roll up the sides and run it as a surrey top and it's the only soft top rated to carry a load designed to attach to the spreader bars and uprights such as a RTT or basket rack. The penalty is decreased aerodynamics and fuel economy...

Like I mentioned earlier I have an 01 Tacoma also and am still satisfactorily using the original alternator without issues showing 13.5-14 volts on the Scangauge. I also have a dual battery system (IBS) with a red and yellow Optima battery. However, I don't have the power draining extra's that...

"...having a very hard time maintaing a charge." And going TAD... Need more information before recommending replacement of the alternator as PM. I have an 01 also and my alternator is fine. If your truck is sitting for long periods between VA and CO visits, your battery will likely loose...
