This is BRILLIANT! If I weren't already all set with our camper FIDO I would be taking a really hard look at one of these to build out myself. Well done Lance and Michelle. We wish you guys the greatest success with this!
Allan and Sakshi...
Interesting. I have the same year FG639 with similar miles. The rubbers on mine seem quite good. Will keep an eye on that crank pulley though. May replace it premtively. Thanks for the heads up.
One of the things that I have always hated about the Fuso is the rearview mirrors.
They were designed for truck bodies that are much wider than a camper and stick out way more than necessary. They are so tall that I am always hitting trees with them and are a brick going down the highway...
With the state of the world lately we have found ourselves hanging around the house with a ton of time on our hands. I finally got around to finishing a couple of projects on Fido that have been bouncing around in the back of my mind for some time.

Over the last 5 years I have...
Should be pretty straightforward to isolate as the AC fan is located in the far right front lower corner of the car. The loose belt is a possibility although I believe it is a dual belt setup. Could also be a compressor failing.

With your work experience you are probably more qualified to make the call than any of us! That having been said, My truck of this generation has been tremendously reliable. Items of concern are rusty frames, and Fuel tank rust. I would recommend draining the tank prior to attempting to...
We are very experienced with clutch type limited slips from road race cars. They need friction modifiers. I have found binding on our truck on sharp turns even with the mitsubishi fluid. It can be subtle or obvious but in any case it tends to wear the outer edges of the front tires. I use...
We love our short wheelbase truck, and while I had considered lengthening it I am glad I didn't. The tight turning radius is awesome and a 12'x7' box is more than enough space. As for the subframe.... you do need a subframe to limit the noodle ness of the chassis. I followed Mitsubishi's...
Wow! The dimensions of the box are identical to the ones on our FUSO short wheel based truck at half the weight. Probably we use have the fuel as well.....
YES! This is a great example. Ours is short wheelbase. It still leaves room for a 12 foot long box which is perfect for our needs. This thing will perform like a jeep off road and with 37" tires cruise on the freeway at 70. For $8000 you will have a lot of $$$ left over for a mechanical...
By their very nature converted vehicles will be less reliable and difficult to repair. Particularly if you plan to travel internationally. The work of hundreds of engineers at an OEM manufacturer just can't be duplicated in low volume manufacturers and parts availability for aftermarket parts...
I would put the Value at somewhere around $100-$125 K. Of course there is a very limited market for these so it is sometimes hard to find the right buyer..... If I was insuring it I would probably insure for $150K.
