I dealt with that on my Jeep. The crank and the cam sensor through the same code, still not a hard fix and if in doubt replace them both. The 4.0 is easy to reach things on compared to a newer engine and easier to work on.

If you are talking bout the 4.0 in the Toyota it probably isn't an 2004. There were a couple of years where they had head issues. I did like my 4Runner until it let me down way to soon. It had decent power and got decent MPG for an SUV. I was hoping for at least 250K out of it.

It isn't just software and technology but also design. On my Jeep and Truck I can find the thermostat easily. There it is right on top or the front of the motor, easy to see, easy to reach. it isn't like that on many newer vehicles. It just seem harder to do even simple maintenance.

The only turbo diesel I ever had was a Mercedes 300sd. The turbo lag was horrible it would make it almost useless for any time you needed power at lower RPMs. Is that still an issue with turbos or is that not such a problem anymore?
