    Wood vs Steel

I understand would be a lot easier to work with but I'm not buying that it's stronger, more resilient or lighter. I've had this metal box for 15-20 years is far lighter than anything I could build with wood. It's been moved cross-country while in the Military by myself and by moving services...

Good job. To me this makes so much more sense than wood.

    Wood vs Steel

Still not lighter than steel. You could pad steel but it could still rattle. Wood could definitely be quoted.

Many things were made with wood.

    Wood vs Steel

It is easier to work with wood for the DIYer. I have read a few post on various sights where people question weather or not their vehicle is too heavy then I look at some of the wood cabinets and just look soo heavy.

I don't know that wood is cheaper but I suppose many are DIYers and wood is easier to work with.

    Wood vs Steel

I see allot of people with wood slides outs, cabinetry and drawers. Why do people favor wood over steel? Wood seems so much heavier and thicker than steel would have to be.

If you need security a steel drawer can me made more secure and will be lighter.

I know many people build shelves and drawers out of wood. I would think it would be very heavy and waste allot of space. Why not metal shelving and bags? I would much rather grab a bag out of a storage rack and take the entire bag to where I need it as opposed to going back and forth grapping...

Why don’t more people take the WK2 overlanding?

Good catch. I usually try to be more careful than that when I write. My dad was an English teacher and he was always on me. One his favorite was. "The man went over the hill with the ball." he would then say it was wrong because hills don't have balls.

I drive a TJ so space is even more limited for me. First I had to really limit what I was taking. Then I had to find space. I built a shelf up front and got ride of the huge center console that had no storage. I replaced it with an ammo can. I can store a bag there that will hold far far far...

    New JL???

I've had my TJ for over 15 years and it is plenty comfortable for me it works really well for me but I would love the extra room of the new Wranglers. I do take mine off road often which I know the newer Wranglers are perfectly capable in that respect but things get dirty and I drive with...

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

If you are able to turn around you will find it easier to breathe.

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

If you can provide more air for the engine and it can suck it in there will be gains. I am not disputing that at all. I just don't think a snorkel can do it. It is too long and too many curves. I suppose if the current air take is so horrible there's a possibility that the snorkel could be...

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

But regardless of what type of intake you won't have more volume of air at the end of you intake the you will at the beginning. You may be able to have an intake that can provide more air compared to another type of intake. One intake may be better at allowing more air to pass through it but...

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

I am now 150% convinced that snorkels are restrictive, no doubt whatsoever, not even the slightest. What I saw in the video and what the ARB representative stated about certain vehicles loosing power makes me a firm believer snorkels and about any other intake system can be restrictive. We did...

and straight into the throttle body or carburetor. I am still curious about variations when drawing from outside the engine compartment vs under the hood.

Stuff to think about. The snorkel is probably killing power. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkpsydS8JXI&feature=youtu.be

Here is an pic of my 79 and behind it you can see my bro-in-law's Ford. If you look close enough you can see the strap I used to tow him home. I am in it for maybe $1500
