The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

I have a GMC Acadia Denali that claims to have about 300 hp. The intake is not much different than my kids cavalier. Being as competitive as auto makers are you would think they would do what they could to out perform the competition but who knows. The hot air in the motor will rise to the...

so with the FCIIs gone, whats the new hotness for A/T with epic winter performance?

I had Super Swampers before so for me they are much quieter for me. I did pick up about 3mpg.

I got a set of these not to long ago. The do better on wet streets and wet grass then my Super Swampers did. They ride great.

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

There are two times I have seen where a snorkel could helped to avoid the problem in expected. I posted them earlier. First one we waited out a storm/tornado. There was allot of rain, the rivers we had crossed earlier had gotten much deeper, too deep for a Tacoma to make it. The other was an...

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

You are correct, my bad. Motors are electric. I will restate my claim, snorkel do not force or ram air into an engine.

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

If your current set is restrictive than changing things could help, maybe a scoop. It you motor gets all the air it can use a scoop won't force more air in the motor. As far as a snorkel? I would run one but I am concerned about vulnerability of a plastic tube run up the side of my jeep. Not...

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

Does a race car motor need more air their your vehicles? The path of least resistance is not into the engine. if that were the case then economy cars would use scopes to direct air into the engine to make the more aerodynamic. *BINGO the engine is able to suck more in because it can push more...

because they need allot of air in their motor.

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

I agree with everything expect what you say about ram air where I have highlighted above. Ram air is not powered. It is basically a hole in the hood over or around a bigger airlifter. The air that may rush at or into that area doesn't mean it used by the motor. They can look cool, if a motor...

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

If a normally aspirated motor can use more air it would suck it in if it were available. If you can provide it with better air it would run better. If it can't suck enough you starve it (high altitude, dirty filter or other restrictive flow) it will run worse. But you can't force air into it.

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

I am not against snorkels, I know they have benefits. BUT You are wrong about ramming air into a normally aspirated motor. Nobody who knows about motors said you can. You can modify a motor to suck more air. You even write about this above. If it needs more air you can help supply it with...

    Reverse lights for rear bumper

I would recommend foods also. I would also recommend putting them on a separate switch. There have been many times I have liked having in light in back while not going in reverse.

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

Your motor is a pump it can only suck what it can suck. If the manufacture created an intake that starves the motor of air then by making more are available it could take it in. But the engine can only suck what it can on its own unless you turbo or super charge it. There are thoughts on...

You cannot force or Ram extra air into a motor unless is turbocharged or supercharged.

I had a 4fh gen and it air intake is pretty vulnerable to water problems.

Even if it is only for the cool factor and you want one get one. My only issue is the vulnerability of the plastic air tube.

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

There have been in situations where I have been with a group where water got into the airbox . We not expecting to go though deeper water but **** just happened. Both vehicles were close to sock and had they much lift they may not have had a problem. The first situation was in Alabama. We...
