    Keeping it simple

I did spend a decent amount of money building my Jeep but as far as gear: I go simple but I am a weekend warrior not a true "overlander". I will take some good brauts or sausages (frozen) for the first night, they I keep them in a small collapsible ice jest with no ice. They will be thawed...

    Re-rigging a pull using a manual winch

If you rig it right you may even be able to pull it out by hand. What you have to realize is that if you are using a 2:1 mechanical advantage you will pull 10 feet to move your load five 5, 3:1 you will pull 12 feet to move your load 4 feet, 4:1 you will pull 12 feet to move your load 3 feet...

Why don’t more people take the WK2 overlanding?

The 4Runner is definitely no trend setter and they are all over priced. The V6 4.0 is a good motor, mine was a 2004 (second year with the 4.0) and there were head issues that year that have since been resolved. MPG wasn't too bad either. Our Denali was about 50k new we bought used for half the...

Why don’t more people take the WK2 overlanding?

The Toyota 4Runner is more like a truck. The Grand Cherokee is more of a crossover. It is more off road or trucks than most other crossovers, When we bought our Acadia because we wanted the comfort and all the bells and whistles so we went with the Denali. We looked at the Grand and all the...

    Car Insurance with Truck Campers

I would check with your insurance company. I also have USAA. For my insurance while pulling campers my liability would extend to the camper, but not my comprehensive or collision. Since my trailer was considered a vehicle it would not be covered under my homeowner's policy unless it stored...

    Onboard air and lockers

I have an older ARB pump that has a small tank as part of the unit. If I am heading out and I think I might need my lockers I turn on the compressor and leave it on until I don't think I will need it any longer. Depending on the trials my compressor might be switched on most of the day.

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

They responded. No testing down on the engine. Even with this I do think a snorkel provides a greater advantage than disadvantage for people who could find themselves in certain situations. For me I am more concerned about that probable damage in thecenvironment I wheel in but will continue...

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

I have other products of theirs for many years. They have served me well. I would be a repeat customer which is what most businesses want. I admit I was really surprised when ARB made those claims. They have always been an extremely well-respected company for very very good reasons. ARB is a...

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

I have received no response from ARB. Therefore I will assume their is absolutely no power increase and ARB is lying to us. I have had ARB airlocker for along long time and I am very pleased with them. I would think if anybody could prove there was a power increase ARB would have the...

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

If snorkels builders were concerned their snorkels compared to stock air intakes there would be testing and test results. I really don't think there is any snorkel maker claiming they make more power. I really don't think making more power is their intent. All they did was build an intake to...

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

Maybe not the last thing on their mind but there are other considerations, Noise deadening, additional protection from the elements, cost. You can find evidence that cold air kits could provide colder, denser or a higher volume of air to the engine allowing the engine to create more power...

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

I have this style on my tractor. Never considered or my Jeep. Oil and water don't mix so it may help there also.

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

Ok, I have the oil bath filter in my old tractor. Is that even an option for modern vehicles? I would think they would be more restrictive.

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

I hope you are joking. They pre filter traps larger particles so you have to clean your filter less but cleaning an oil soaked sponges sucks. It saves you no time and very little money, if any at all. They become very restrictive muddy oil soaked sponges. Oil type (K&N type items) are far...

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

If you see "ramming air" as providing more air yes. If you see ramming air as forcing it into the engine then no.

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

Why not get involved in another part of this conversation. DUST. Many of you talk about the Mojave. I spent years living in it while stationed at Fort Irwin. I spent 10+ days a month for about 3 years LIVING out of a H1 running around playing the enemy (OPFOR). I spent many many many many...
