I knew that TacoAss MK III would be in my future when I found time to revamp the concept, I didn't think it'd be a winch-friendly bumper... nor did I expect it to be associated with a Tacochaser kind of project. Ever since I saw the Tacochaser, I knew I liked it, but the price of the replacement...
Found this locally http://denver.craigslist.org/pts/4808427675.html
Let me know if you want a local to help secure a deal on it, I'm happy to lend a hand.
Got a head start on designing the rear bumper... Probably going to get something mocked up on the M416 box tonight as well to kind of dial in dimensions.
Basically I wanted to come up with something that'd be lighter weight than the tube-based design I've got right now, and would work well with...
Gotta bleed the brakes and clutch tomorrow - then test drive! Started looking into what it'll take to switch the power windows over to the new doors, looks real straightforward... I found a good writeup here, in case anyone else is wondering what's going on inside the doors.
Gonna start...
SOLD!!
This is the same bumper as the one I built for Squeaky Penguin earlier this year, minus the Rotopax mount. Just to give everyone some history, this isn't my first bumper... it's #7, I've built a few for Jeeps and Tacos, so I've become somewhat familiar with what works and doesn't...
I'm...
Got 'er started today!
I spent the first fair amount of the day trying to figure out the best way to deal with the fuel lines, there's one on the donor cab that's shorter than the original, and then the main line had a flare and nutted fitting... after trying to track down a few different...
I've got some ideas rolling around for a color scheme that'll tie it together nicely without being overbearingly white.
In the meantime, my replica CARC Desert Storm tan paint came, and now that I'm not using that, it doesn't make sense to return it (between shipping lost here, shipping lost...
Sweet, thanks for the tip! I think I'm going to give the Duplicolor a try here as a test, simply because the autozone down the street has it in stock, and it's $7/can, if that doesn't seem to quite match up I'll give automotive touch up a try. If nothing else, I could use the Duplicolor as the...
Yep! :) Gonna go in an... interesting direction for the back end, both bumper and bed will be radically different. (just wait till you see the new bumper design! :) )
Thanks!

Today, I started out with the goal of making these two switch places.
I succeeded.
Started out with just a...
I sure didn't feel beastly for most of today... I was extremely grumpy for a while. Then I had some food, didn't go into the garage for like an hour, and the mood improved.
Today's progress:
With exception of some confusion, and about an hour and a half of me being extremely.... well, this...
Well, my back hurts.
Started the day off by removing the topper, rear bumper, and getting the bed ready to pluck off.
Once that was done, I got to work on the interior trim, I also had my windshield guy come by and pull the one from the donor cab, while he was here he pushed out the rear...
Thanks man. I'll be sure to post up pictures nightly, I've got my small camera charging now so I can stay on top of orientation photos, as well as general progress shots.
Tomorrow morning, plan is to begin removing major stuff, starting at the back end and moving forward:
- rear bumper
-...
Shipping info for the service manual said it was set to arrive at my house Tuesday sometime, happy to see it arrived Saturday :)
And more importantly, we have CAB! Yesterday my dad and I rented a trailer and went up to Jim's yard to pick up the cab and new doors, dropped by the car wash on the...
I think this is the route we're going to go. I met with my dad, and my friend Terry who's offered his services as a TIG welder today (he's also swapped roofs on a few older FJ's). I went into the discussion thinking the roof swap would be the generally agreed-upon route we'd end up going...
Does anyone have any good resources for info on cab swappage? I've perused multiple threads, and so far the most informational has been Monte's. The thought of doing a full cab swap is high on my list of consideration right now, as it'll be more structurally sound, and require less body work...
Thanks for the thoughts everyone. Today the mechanic got the fluids changed or topped off as needed and got it , he said it lost abrunninglost3qts of oil, it sputtered and spewed gnarly exhaust for a bit, and then ran smoothly. He said he massaged the doors around and got the windows rolled up...
Today, the latest implementation of the never-ending flow of stressors in my life. We had a tow truck driver come up (keep in mind, it's 6f at the house, and expected snowfall between now and tomorrow morning is up to 10" in my neck of the woods (heh).
Guy wasn't a very happy camper that he had...
