I'm in the process of doing a re-wire on the suburban, so far I'm looking at West Marine and Aircraft Spruce, plus some small suppliers.
I'm tired of the crap that's stock and doesn't last/corrodes before I get it fastened/falls apart etc. So I'm doing the rewire using marine and aviation...
Even with a limited budget it can be done - ya just gotta be selective and take your time in finding the parts. Doing your own work also helps in a couple of different ways.
Personally, I like that older body style, parts prices are inexpensive and it's easy to work on. NV4500 and a 205 are...
I thought at first they might be talking MTVR, but reading that paragraph the only thing that comes to mind is one of Honeggars Scorpions. I know he's working on some contracts for DARPA, on and off, and he's probably not the only one. Why in the world the BLM would want a rock crawler for fire...
Thinking CONUS here - what have you more experienced folks seen out there, expedition camper-wise, that's a medium duty chassis and not a 4x4?
I'm looking at my intended usage, and for now it's going to be something like 90% on-road, and the rest dirt road/gravel road. Nothing intense, but at...
I'd bet that they were using Daniel somehow (matter of fact you can see they're using his gearbox) , and I'd also bet that their website hasn't been updated in a while. It'd be interesting to see if they're still actively involved together.
I'll have to pass this along to a buddy of mine that's looking for a 12V. I'll be looking at pulling my 24V in the future and dropping a 12V in, but he's building a truck up from scratch and wants to go 12V. Left coast location too, so hopefully it'll work out for the both of you......
I'll second the Sunbrella stuff. There's a decent sail maker down off of Rosecrans that I used some years ago, but that area is rife with all sorts of chandlers and sailmakers. You shouldn't have any problems with it. If you can't find it there for some reason, then I'd try UFO in Vista, I've...
Ah, thanks. Now that helped - yep, he's well known. I fired an email off to him, have to see what happens. I'd like to know what's worked so far for him, and what he'd change. I'm just prospecting locally right now, but it's one of the hobbies I'll take along with me once I get back on the trail...
Great photo there, whatcharterboat. Even though it's back in the day, I still think it's worthwhile studying - always good to see how folks do their loadouts. You don't happen to know if he's still around, do you? I might ask on some of the prospecting forums out there and see if there are any...
I'll have to chime in with encouragement to keep those posts coming. You folks have some great ideas, and you're pulling it off well.
I'd still like to see some long travel suspension kits show up on these shores....
Those nylon barbs usually work best only with vinyls - for braided rubber hoses try finding brass fittings, non-barbed but with the swelled end. Hose clamp them and you should be good to go. Don't use teflon tape, teflon paste, or anything other than water to get the hose onto the fitting either.
