The Land Rover "reliability" thing: solved.

Excellent article. I was told by a Defender owner when i bought my first Freelander. " A Land Rover has soul, it has character, while you get used to your new car, it gets used to a new owner, it may test you to see if your suitable to be it's owner" Boy was he right... haha. My D3 has left...

Land Rover LR3: A Cautionary Tale

I'm still curious how he got raped for $1700 for front lower arms and joints... Prices for over here are. Allmakes, £115 + vat at 20% Genuines £200 inc vat. Track rod ends. Genuines £45 a side. Aftermarket £35 a side. So, £490 for genuines, £25 for new bolts and fixings at worst case. Wheel...

    LR3/4 snorkel question

Then again, it's his $60k car, so he can fit whatever he likes to it... :) I have no real need for one, however, it shall go with the look i have for my car so i shall buy one. Although, given how much i enjoy driving through deep water and seek out large puddles to splash though, ( when no...

Land Rover LR3: A Cautionary Tale

You have went about this in an unusual way. You bought the car then checked up on it, a quick search of this forum would have given you plenty of advice on what to check on the cars. Also, 2 of your bills are for consumables, eg, brakes and servicing. I'm sure the land cruisers need that done...

    LR3/4 snorkel question

But for the cost, it's easier to buy the Safari one. Over here you can get one for £250. A cheap Chinese copy is £70. The RAI is over £400. 2nd hand ones are usually damaged or missing parts.

    LR3/4 snorkel question

Go for the Safari. It's water proof, the LR item is not. It's just a raised air intake. I'm getting a Safari model in the next month or so, so if you still haven't got one, i can let you know how it goes.

    LR3 Model/Tire Questions

5-600 miles will keep it very happy indeed. My own car's only serious issue was the starter failing, which got changed yesterday. Otherwise mine has just needed the usual high mileage wear and tear items changed. Personally, buying 2nd hand opens up all the models to you, i went for an HSE, i...

    LR3 Model/Tire Questions

From experience and the general verdict from UK indys and the various forums. LR3/D3's like to be used, one in regular use will be a happy car. Mine covers 1200 miles a month minimum and runs sweet for it. At 85k, the bushes and bearings will be feeling tired if the originals. I personally went...

    LR3 Model/Tire Questions

05 models should be find by now. Most issues were software related. I would want to see bills for the following or price to have them done. Front wheel bearings. Arb bushes all round. Front lower wishbones for the bushes and ball joints. Rear upper arms. Also. Many of us UK Disco3 owners have...

    LR3 Clunk? Not controls arms...

Have you checked the rear uppers? The bushes on them can wear out as well. Both rear bushes on mine were totally shot to the extent i had nearly 1/2 inch of sideways movement in them if grabbed and shoved. If so, buy genuine RRS ones, they are the better arm. Also they are what get's fitted to...

    LR3 Clunk? Not controls arms...

Could be ARB bushes, they are all very easy to change. There are 2 version's of the bushes, an older design and the newer one with a thicker base. I got genuines with bolts for £70. ( adjust for pound-dollar) You can do them in 30 mins or so. Also, having just refreshed my 04 114k D3, the...

This weekends fun. We have, Brembo callipers from a Sport supercharged, with discs to match and EPC yellow stuff pads. RRS rear terrafirma discs, EPC advanced pads and sender with full handbrake shoe kit. I think this lot should transform the Disco3s braking ability.

    $150 Suspension Compressor?

The AMK one is a better design, lots of us UK guys swap over to the AMK once the original one goes pop. There is a software update needed to get it to work properly with the rest of the car, but it's worth doing. However, your car suffering SO many failures is not from a bad design of...

Following on from my suspension overhaul. The brakes all round are needing changed. So, i've bought a set of RRS Brembo front calipers to fit on, with suitably large disc's and EPC yellowstuff pads. Rear's are also getting changed for new disc's, EPC pads, new sensor's and new handbrake shoes...

Got everything bar the rear uppers done. Need to buy new rear hub bushes and bolts for that. Plus it needs new rear brake pipes and a front one. Still, upgrading the brakes to Sport Brembos at the same time. Also got my satnav unlocked, 3 flash indicators and clock on dash and 2012 sat nav disc.

My Indy guy is coming on Saturday. He changed the front lowers in April. A 9 inch grinder was the tool of choice... I've bought all new bolts etc so he can cut through everything and makes it easier to do. Then 4 wheel alignment on Monday, and i can enjoy driving my car again with all new and...

After a weekends off roading competition. This sums up the weekend really, 1 shiney D3, up against loads of Defenders. The D3 came in 19th out of nearly 50 in our class. So there are a few Defender owners a bit annoyed that a near standard car with Duratrac's and a sump guard placed higher...
