Corrosion on Campteq or Alu-Cab Pop-Up Systems

Our Campteq rests on a rubber gasket, so the aluminum is not in contact with any steel. No corrosion and no dust or water getting in. You'll probably have better luck with feedback on Campteq on the Mud forum.

Yeah, I was wondering about valves and rings too. I hadn't considered the possible connectedness of the camera and cylinder problems until Chasing raised it. It seems unlikely, and I would expect engineers to silo systems to preclude domino cross-failures, but it's still something to watch.

All good commentary, this point ^ especially. I generally agree that anecdotes do not equal data and that everyone makes occasional lemons. I think it's also fair to say that JLR's history of poor reliability is a data context making this example more worrisome. Despite these early failures...

Land Rover continues its legendary reliability with TFL's new Defender. "A" for service effort, but still an "F." TFL has owned this Defender for two weeks and a few hundred miles; it's been at the dealership for all but two of those days. JLR flew in an engineer last Monday to help; it...

    FJ60 Diesel Campteq Camper Build

I ordered a Gobi ladder for my 80 Series Campteq but after months and months of waiting, I finally cancelled. I found another online. There are probably options for the 60 out there, like this...

    ZR2 vs Gladiator Sport S

I too like Gladiator's ugliness. It's endearing. To my eye it's too long and low, needing taller tires and lift. But after fixing its proportions the brash utilitarianism shines through--and I find that as intensely ugly as it is beautiful and satisfying to look at. Taller tires would soften...

Electric Hummer pick up truck teaser pic

Too little range for too much money. The 1% will buy it as bling, but Rivian and Cybertruck are vastly better values. Interesting, but pretty irrelevant.

That's true. While the CEL is now off, the underlying problem that triggered the code was neither verified nor remedied. Luckily they're not leaving to Baja with such uncertainty. I want badly for Defender's reliability to be as tour-worthy as its design. TFL's experience thus far is...

Camera system fails after fuel mixture problem fixed with fewer than 500 miles on the odometer. The camera system is one of those things I'd rather not have or pay for in the first place--for cost and needless electronic complexity.

    New Defender News

Bad fuel-air mixtures in two of the four cylinders after all of 167 miles. How utterly predictable and unsurprising. I would be disappointed. That base spec on steelies sure is handsome though, even if bound to the garage.

I hope not. Lift rods (sacrificing travel for height, if I'm understanding it correctly) on these trucks seem dumb.

TFL purchased a base spec Defender with rear locker and advanced 4WD, (But for the center seat and tow package it's identical to the build I put together.) I look forward to their reviews.

I notice that too; It's rigid with little wheel travel -- stiff-legged when it should be flexing. I wonder how rude the ride is.

What would you go for? A 60 or a 100 series?

I would choose the 100 because it will be more comfortable and less exhausting to drive on the highway. The novelty of the dated 60 may be lost on the family, especially on long trips where comfort is key.

    Which EV would you buy?

I agree. In fact, I think the added efficiency and range is game changing. The range expansion with just five or ten gallons of extra fuel with 50 (Wrangler PHEV) or 83 (Defender) MPGe brings limitless possibilities for self supported remote touring routes. Having pioneered the technology, I am...
