Rear Door Mod Redux With the platform insert there aren't many ways to stow flat rigid items and yet there are two that are indispensable to our travels, a folding step and a folding table. The step is used around the rig when packing the roof rack and it gives my dog a literal leg up in...

Gen. III middle row seat repair- bush mechanic style

I removed it by dismantling it from the hardware on its flanks giving me access underneath the seat bottom to the mechanism that releases it from its mount on the floor.

Thanks. I went Moog all around, though I can't remember exactly what wheel bearings went in.

Right, a gutter mount certainly ups the integrity of the mount. There's a label on my stock rack indicating a load limit of 100 (OP was 150, but I've since been working on the rack and found the label) pounds. Just this weekend I attached a pair of J-hook kayak racks to the stock cross bars...

It's possible, but you'd have to reinforce the rack's weak spot which is the junction between the two platform halves. I tied the basket floor together with UV resistant zip ties as well. A wire crimp would be even better.

ARB 1250 Awning Shade is a commodity like water where we amble. Trees are sparse in the land that we travel and we've depended on an awning for the decade we've been doing this. This is our third awning, our second ARB and I was surprised to find some improvements in the product when I...

Apex Roof Rack The Franklin Rack didn't work out for our needs; too small, not rigid enough. It's found a new home on my son's Gen 3. For $54 more than the Franklin, I replaced it with this Apex Rack, a larger, more rigid platform with parallel vertical posts where a rear awning can be...

Rocker Blackout I used Duplicolor's Spray Truck Bed Coating to black out the rockers and bumpers. I made the mistake of using their rolled on product to begin with, resulting in bad surface continuity. The coating was sealed at the seam to the factory finish with 1/4" pin striping in...

Good idea, but the door won't clear the receiver. Something fabricated to a pintle plate is a great idea.

Thanks. Good question. At 3.44 pounds per square foot, the particle board comes in at approximately 180 pounds.

Platform and Drawer System Part Two With all these design considerations and alterations, this is what we ended up with: The drawer pulls are lockable Amarine 2" Flush Pull Slam latches. Accuride 28" Full Extension Drawer Glides support the gear drawer rated it 100 pounds. The...

Platform and Drawer System If you've been reading along on this build you know that there was a dog deck and a folding utility shelf installed, neither of which worked as well as I would have liked. Add to that one of the reasons I went with this 2.5 is its room to create a sleeping platform...

Good question. I have a Lift-Mate that attaches at the wheel. Outside of that and without sliders or custom bumpers with the keyholes, there's not much else to choose from as attachment points. I do have a receiver hitch that could be used as a jack point, but I want the departure angle back, so...

Right. This one's been atop the H3 for three years. I use it often pulling posts and despite its patina, I keep it up with WD. I was wondering about boots as I was putting this together. Thanks for the tip.

Hi-Lift Jack Mount Necessity being the mother that it is, the Hi-Lift Jack had to go somewhere else other than on the Franklin rack. I think it soiled itself when I lifted it up for a test fit. The next more likely spot was on the brush guard. I drilled a hole through the cross members of...

Congrats on the 2.5. Mine came with the same brush guard. Waang? I'm working on a HiLift Jack mount for it.

Folding Utility Shelf No.3 One interior mod we've used the most is the folding utility table mounted on the rear door. This being the third, I thought it'd be pretty straightforward, borrowing from the Gen3's use of an off-the-shelf 1"X12"X24" plank (this one being pine) and the hardware...
