Got it out I used a strap and pulled it until I started sliding the sub and jack stands on the concrete, pounded one side of a pickle fork behind the flange, and then beat it with the slide hammer about 30 whacks and it finally came out. Now I have the wrong short side bearing I guess a trip...
After looking at some pictures of people rebuilding the a 8.25 clamshell I realize why the thrust washer is the way it is...some previous owner/mechanic tried to use a slide hammer to pull the long axle out and therefore screwed the washer. The below picture makes me realize what caused the...
So #8 is what made the sliver it was cone shaped into the axle housing....I don't know what caused it. Any one know what tat is called? Thrust washer maybe?
I hit a road block with the short side shaft...the keeper must me messed up because I've beat on this thing for the past 3 hours and cannot get it to budge. I thought it was because the long side housing was off and the bushings were obsorbing the shock from the slide hammer so I installed the...
Drei I always wanted to visit Maine they say there is some country up there that is awesome and about as remote as anywhere else...Hope you enjoy! Cant wait for some video in the pines.
yeah 16 years old oil didn't look like any water got in it.....the plug had a good amount of shaving on it but nothing big. nothing like the smell of gear oil.
Started on the front axle shaft bearings today, I'm glad I didn't just do the side that was loose just listen to the bearings when I post up the video.. I pulled the long side tube to get at the bearing there 2 hours and its all tore apart not near as bad as I though. No need to even jack the...
Rayra, yeah I know I shouldn't do it. In my teens I put dual exhaust on a little '92 ford ranger I had and the first thing my Dad said was it won't take long to blow it up now. (from wanting to hear the pipes)...I showed him that ranger had 330k when I sold it.
That flange has play (even with the CV installed) and a slight leak. The noise I talked about in earlier post is being caused by this bearing mainly only in 4wd or Auto 4wd in 2wd it has some noise but not near as noticeable.
Ok so either I'm dumb or the guys/gals at the part store are. I need to replace what I would call the outer axle bearing, they keep trying t sell me a wheel bearing/unit bearing I even had one guy crawl under the truck with me and I showed him where it was...no luck so Im looking on rock auto...
never tried to cash in but I do know I have 50,000+ on my cooper at3's with about a 1/4" of thread left on them... its on a 1500 suburban not a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck. But after seeing the conversation about the Falken's I'm thinking of switching brands.
