    Collection of Build Threads

RIP: The Canuck Truck build up. This rig is now gone thanks to the rusted frame recall. There may be some good ideas for others in the thread. Enjoy. The Canuck Truck buildup Cheers, P

Question: Convert 1HZ 80 Series to 1HD-FT/FTE versus upgrade to 100 Series?

Ha, if you luck out with the 6/49 and want to set up a 76 for testing prior to a Cape York trip, I'll volunteer my time to organise it for you. The catch you need a third one, for me as we are going to Cape York in June/July of this year. Interesting point about returning to Canada. Don't...

Question: Convert 1HZ 80 Series to 1HD-FT/FTE versus upgrade to 100 Series?

Unfortunately not that easy. The 105 only came with two engines from Mr. Toyota. The 1HZ and 1FZ-FE. They did not provide the nice 1HD-FTE. I did not want to "contaminate" this thread with a discussion regarding the 76 Series but since you ask.... The most significant barrier to going the...

Question: Convert 1HZ 80 Series to 1HD-FT/FTE versus upgrade to 100 Series?

I do tend to go out and play on some harder tracks and trips on occasion. Unfortunately I've managed to push the front axle of the 80 past it's limit read here: 80 Series - Broken front diff housing. I did get home from this trip. I believe that's one benefit of the 80 due to the solid axles...

Question: Convert 1HZ 80 Series to 1HD-FT/FTE versus upgrade to 100 Series?

Good suggestion however here's the catch. To properly turbo a 1HZ to ensure engine longevity there are many things you need to consider as follows: Check engine compression Ensure that injectors are in top condition and fuel pump is in good working order (rebuild for both is about $2200) Turbo...

Question: Convert 1HZ 80 Series to 1HD-FT/FTE versus upgrade to 100 Series?

To the ExPo LandCruiser enthusiasts, a question I have for you! What option would you choose if you had the option between the following: Engine conversion on a 1997 1HZ 80 Series with 218000 Km on the vehicle. Engines being considered are the Toyota 1HD-FT (factory offering in the 80 Series)...

    Birth of My Kimberley Karavan

A few words of advice. M and I had been very happy living out of a tent for two years now. Managed to see some very beautiful places in Oz, then we decided to go have a look at the Kimberly Kampers... Needless to say, we have one in tow now. Not sure you can call it camping anymore...

Perth to Uluru (Ayers Rock) and return, 14 days

Very cool rig and trailer set up. Glad you've decided not to wait, life is too short. I wish you a full recovery and many adventures down the track. Never been to WA yet. Managed to see quite a bit here in QLD and NSW. Later this year we are doing Cape York then who knows, might just keep...

    Birth of My Kimberley Karavan

Brad, Got the latest Australia 4WD Action and guess who's picture was in there? Yep, they have been using some of your great photos showing the Kimberly Kamper in a few spots in the US. Their quote is: "Where will you take yours?". Congrats on being the US "advert" guy for KK. Question...

1994 Locked Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ80 converted to 1HD-T/A442

Nicely built 80 Series. I'd give this rig a serious look if I were back in Canada. Out of curiosity, why did you choose to stick to the Auto gearbox? They are solid especially with the Wholesale Automatics upgrades. Cheers, P

A funny thing happened on the way home from Sema

Just an interesting note, the rear broken window curse is relatively common here in Oz. In fact it's quite common to see people with cardboard taped to their rear window. Nearly every off road trailer comes with stone deflectors to redirect the rocks to the ground and not the 4WD rear window...

    1994 80 series with a new heart= 1hdt... Diesel Cruiser

Sorry should have been more specific, wiring looms are for the following conversions: 1FZ-FE to 1HD-FTE (you need to have the HDJ79 or HDJ100 loom plus your 1FZ-FE loom to get them "spliced" together). So that's going to an engine with relatively lots of wires to another with a few electronics...

    1994 80 series with a new heart= 1hdt... Diesel Cruiser

Interesting, in Oz Toyota circles the 1HD-FT is considered a bit of an orphan of an engine as it was only available for a few years and only available in the 80 Series cruisers. It's a relatively rare engine for Oz, not so sure about Japan. Most opt for the 1HD-T or 1HD-FTE. There are a few...

Sure Power Battery Separator/Interconnect Model 1314-200

I don't currently have the Sure Power unit as I sold the Tacoma. I'm currently running the National Luna unit and it's been trouble free for two years now. I would strongly consider the Redarc unit as they are Australian designed and manufactured. They are expensive but as they say, you get...

Sure Power Battery Separator/Interconnect Model 1314-200

Old thread - but product was recalled in Australia... Well folks, this is an old thread however I just found this on the Australian ARB website (they distribute the Sure Power units down under). Having had one of these fail and seeing this would make me question any future use but I'll leave...

    1994 80 series with a new heart= 1hdt... Diesel Cruiser

Cool conversion Great looking conversion. Another diesel convert here. The two toyota engines I would love to replace the ever reliable 1HZ with: 1HD-FTE or 1HD-T Both superb Toyota offerings...

    HDJ100! swap

Superb conversion. Not sure why I did not see this thread before, must be too much time at work and not enough time on ExPo. Very well done. I've been thinking about more power for the 1HZ in recent times...:sombrero:

3 Weeks on the road in Atlantic Canada

Fundy area Ah, my old stoping grounds. Good to see others coming by to explore. To really see what the Fundy area of New Brunswick has to offer, you need to get off the beaten path. You were very very close when you chose to use the dirt roads heading to Alma from St. Martins. A few of my...
