Of boots and soles...
Good eye, they are a nice everyday/relaxing boot. I really liked the R M Williams boots however they were over twice the price, I was not sure if I would like these boots or if they would fit my feet properly, not to mention they were going to be covered in dirt/mud on...
Just caught up with this trip report. Great shots, good stories and cool family trip. Has all the right ingredients for a memorable family vacation. Well done! :victory:
Hmmm, I'm suprised they let you out of the country with one of them in your bags... I've yet to try one of these out but have read and heard great things. I may have to start a parts distribution from Oz to North America for these beauties...
Martha's contribution to the thread.
Days 4 & 5 – 28 & 29 July, Innaminka to Coognie Lakes (~110 Km).
Martha wanted to contribute a bit as well so she wrote this part.
There is nothing better than the taste of brekkie cooked on the open fire. The eggs, toast and bacon all become smoke...
Ha,
Jan's recent build up thread is what eventually lead me to this gem! :sombrero:
Reading between the lines, Jan's new Cruiser needs some suspension upgrades I take it.
Doing a bit of day dreaming/searching and found this:

No affiliation, just one cool rig.
Building up your 1991 TLC PZJ77
Jan,
Thanks for the information. I was currious to understand what prompted the change. I was also currious about your thoughts on 12V vs. 24V systems? I like that the Australian 80 series is 12V.
Cheers,
P
Mountainpete,
Thanks for the input, I was thinking that it would be something along those lines. The one thing that suprises me, is that brand new Toyota 70 series vehicles that come with a snorkel direct from Toyota don't have these "birdfeeder" covers. I see lots of these rigs on the dealer...
Making a change.
Jan,
I'm currious, what prompted the change from the 73 to the 77? No preferrance for either or, just like to understand your though process. They are both very good platforms.
Cheers,
P
I had originally posted this under my build up thread but did not get too many answers so I'll try it again here.
Can anyone tell me if there is a useful purpose to the snokel "mailbox" or "birdfeeder" type cover over the snokel head as seen here:
From another angle, where the birds can...

Day 3 - continued...
As the day was winding down, we rolled into Innamincka. Dusty, tired and jarred from the miles of corrugated roads but we were happy. They say that you either love or hate the Outback, we were both loving it. Given my...
Slow going...
The trip as described so far has been mostly on paved and gravel road, but from this point on I'd consider this to be an off-road treks admittedly more touring oriented. Understanding that there are other more difficult locations that really up the off road factor such as a trip...
Day 3 Monday 27th July – Noccundra to Innaminka, South Australia (~220 Km).
After a lazy morning, of coffee and breakfast we packed up. Given the short distance we had to travel, we were in no hurry. Today would mark a few important milestones in the trip. First in approximately 100 Km the...
Jan,
A few clarifications required. When you speak of "traditional" or "snake" type snorkel head I assume you mean like this one:
When you speak of the cyclone or pre-cleaner you mean this style:

In my case I believe it's a cross between the cyclone and...
Nice build up thread!
Finally had a quick run through your build up thread, well done. Looks like you are getting out there and enjoying the country.
Cool fold out table. Where did you get the table leg hinges that allow them to fold out? I'm thinking that for the legs, you could simply...
Snorkel related question for the Landcruiser gurus...
Can anyone tell me if there is a useful purpose to the snokel "mailbox" or "birdfeeder" type cover over the snokel head as seen here:
Underneath the cover, is the standard OEM Toyota snorkel head as seen here:

Working out the bugs with rear suspension
Wow, time flies when you don't have net access but that's now been permanently resolved! I'm home for good and working out of the Brisbane office. :wings:
Since the install and trip to Innamincka, South Australia we have managed to get out and see...
