British Columbia to Baja; Winter Solstice in the Desert

Great report and keep on sharing. As a former "bus" owner (a '69 and a '70 Westfalia) who spent a winter in Calgary, I have a suggestion for dealing with a cold VW bus while you're driving: a Mexican blanket hung behind the front seats from side-to-side. In SoCal it was for style and privacy. In...

    Callen campers back business?

Do you have the new contact info? The original link to the C-list posting has expired and I'd like to speak to them about a shell for the MDR. Thanks in advance! Richard :sombrero:

Drawer alternative - solution from Front Runner

I have no experience other than checking them out at their retail store in Agoura Hills, CA. Well built, slides and latches easily, options such as add-on sections for a water tank, etc. are available...for a price, of course. Buy once, cry once. Good luck. :sombrero:

My 92 Dakota back country rig build

I'm running a HitchGate from Wilco on my Ram. Beefy and well built, it mounts to my factory receiver hitch and is offset to the driver's side so it wouldn't interfere with your fuel can. But, between the weight of the hitch and the full size spare it "wags the tail" in some situations. That...

    California Coast Road Trip

Classic trip...Kirk Creek is a beautiful campsite and I never tire of visiting "The Castle". I hope Annika finds a way to accommodate for her motion sickness. I have been prone my entire life and can even feel queasy when I drive, such as further north on Hwy. 1 towards Big Sur. But I live for...

1976 Scout Traveler, Ultimate Expedition Build

We loitered for far too long checking out the Dodge and Scout at OEX last weekend. Incredible builds on both. The color combo on the Scout is just right. Congrats...:clapsmile

Overland Expo For Sale Swap meet

I have a Smittybilt XRC12 winch, 1st gen, not in the original box but never used, never mounted. All parts, bolts, and pieces are there. $250 and I'll load it into the truck and bring it to Expo. :sombrero:

Thanks for the "leg work" Subterran. 😎

upgrade on board batteries or add solar

My GEN light came on in town (not in the boonies!) and volt-meter started showing a drop in power. 45 minutes later and only one busted knuckle and I take the core in for a replacement tomorrow. I would have been screwed anywhere else. That's a great story!

Has anyone used Monstaliner on their camper and truck?

Will be watching this closely. I'm just about sold on rolling a similar product onto my truck. Years of sunshine has the mid-90s clear coat and now base coat peeling off in large sheets. I have to deal with an HOA thus the roller job instead of spraying in the driveway, even with a DIY booth...

    California Highway 395

Dude...backroads are like secret surf breaks; only for the most trusted. Fortunately you're on ExPo. :sombrero:

If you were to start all over with a brand new truck, which would you choose?

Ram fanboy here. My '96 has over 280k on the original 5.9 gasser and transmission so I'm sold on Dodge reliability. My buddy drives a 5.7 Hemi PW, one of the last made before the switch to the 6.4. Awesome truck but for my purposes I'd look for a 3500 regular cab long bed Hemi. FWC out back or...

Which rear diff locker or limited slip best for snow and twisty paved mountain roads?

Thanks for the invite Rockhounder. Yup, ours is stick framed with 2x4...not nominal but true to size. Built in '33 and our family bought it in '46 after the war. Have tugged and pulled at it but still not a straight corner. Just adds to the "hominess". Just finished re-siding and re-roofing for...

Which rear diff locker or limited slip best for snow and twisty paved mountain roads?

Thanks for the tip on the shop, Rockhounder. We have an old cabin in Green Valley Lake we're rehabbing at the moment. You're correctomundo about road conditions...constantly changing throughout the day as snow/ice fall, melt, and then refreeze. Good luck on your selection. Although I have an...
