Yup, winch is being (re)installed and I’ll definitely have to run larger gauge to the aux battery. I’ll probably replace the isolator while I’m at it since it was installed back in ‘02 and I don‘t run a dedicated camper. Also, I like to “baseline” critical parts on any used vehicle. Thanks for...
Project is looking good! Quick question: on my ‘02 Silvy there is an isolator on the firewall (driver’s side) with an 8ga run back to the bed that used to feed a Lance camper. I want to add an aux battery in the same location as yours, using the isolator that is already there. I notice what...
We have a Coleman Ultra Extreme that will keep a block of ice reasonably intact over a 5-day period in the desert. While I haven’t tried it yet, I thought about using dry ice to extend its efficiency. Of course, most of that is a moot point since I bought the Dometic fridge & freezer.
Condolences. My father passed when I was 10 and my mom (now 86!) made sure I spent lots of time on outdoor adventures. Keep it up with the kids...they’ll thank you for it.
Back in the early 2000s. My cousin’s F-350 towing a flat trailer full of motorcycles, Pismo Beach. Crossing the stream, the trailer’s “triangle” got hooked up on a submerged rock...no going forward or back, couldn’t get the trailer unhitched, tide starting to come in. Several trucks with snatch...
Referencing the original post F-350/flatbed: if you believe you’ll really need a winch then go big and permanently mount front & rear and be done with it. Moveable winch for that size rig? Good luck on your upcoming hernia operation.
My FIL, retired large animal veterinarian, worked the Eagle Cap (and Iditarod) for several years. We took a horse pack trip up in the wilderness several years ago. Absolutely beautiful area. Good luck and have fun at the race!
Have you noticed a demonstrably harsher ride with the keys? I’ve added a brush bar and winch to the front of mine and want to re-set the height plus maybe just a bit more.
Our 2010 Suburban sports the 5.3/6L80 combo and I can wholeheartedly concur with the suggestion for regular trans services and fluid level checks. The car runs noticeably better after full flushes, eliminating the lag between shifts. After 153k miles it’s still a great ride for us. ?
Same thing happened to me on the Mojave Rd several years ago...dust devil. If that’s a Rhino Rack Batwing it must be staked down at the bottom of the poles and with guy lines.
Nice build BTW!
1. Shovel
2. Traction boards
3. Bottle jack
Always carry the above items but if you're traveling with another vehicle(s) a snatch strap can eliminate having to use those tools.
