I still think you should apply a black decal where the windows would be to give the appearance that there are windows there. I think it would make the Jeep stand out less to the untrained eye. Right now it screams "something is different about me!"
Thanks! I actually found it on google and sent off a text to my girlfriends dad. He has an LJ and he's never put the top down! he also had some things stolen out of it recently so he should be the perfect candidate for a Safari Cab. He also has a place in South Carolina. I hope he does it!
Have you considered getting a black decal made to go where the outline of a window is on the top? I think that would make it much less noticeable to the untrained eye that your Jeep is more than just a regular Jeep.
I only mentioned a trailer because of the poster mentioning traveling with his wife and dog. I suppose all wives and dogs are different but even though my dog is a great traveler he would need a bit more space. Dog's can't really sit in the same spot for long periods of time, they need to move...
Here's another great addition to your camping Jeep set up if you are still using the stock rear bumper. You can use the bumper as a water container (holds over 7 gallons!) and have a pressurized pump to get it out!

For extended trips you would probably do best to get a small trailer to tow behind the Jeep. That way all your camp stuff is packed in the trailer and you will have room for dogs and stuff you might need on the road inside the Jeep. While I love the idea of the Ursa Minor top, it's not really...
Interested to see where this goes. I didn't realize the outer door skins are so cheap, wonder if there is a way to make them functional without the rest of the door parts? Could they be welded/attached to some cheap tube doors for a factory look?
You would lose a few inches of standing headroom, but I think building something like this would really supplement the Ursa Minor top well.

I say go for it. I see factory bumpers on craigslist every day for less than 100 bucks. They are frequently given away for free on Jeep forums also. Nothing to lose.
I started my conversion today. the hardest part so far was tracking down a suitable cap for the fill hole. I finally found one for a whopping $0.29 and got that installed. It was in the PVC section and it's called a "knock out cap" I went with the 2" size and mounted it on the passenger side...
Hmm I wonder if the AEV pump could be adapted to the factory bumper? It seems like it's doable after looking at the install instructions. I like the sprayer and pump idea better though.

Well just to update this thread for anyone that might be searching in the future, this is a great rack for hauling kayaks! I don't even need any kind of light bar over the windshield, the racks bars space far enough apart. With everything strapped down the kayak is very stable up there.
