    Yakima Bedrock rack for RTT

The 86" wide Yakima roundbars have a thicker wall than any of the shorter bars, I'd consider using those and cutting them down to the appropriate length, but I agree more than two bars would help distribute the load and flex less. I'm running a hardshell RTT on top of a cap with four Yakima...

Stock Vehicles in the Wild ???

True, but pretty close :), it did most of the same stuff last year on the stock 33s (it's on 35s now) and no sliders with a little more caution, this year we ran all of Golden Spike in it.

    High Top Soft Topper?

Probably pretty difficult to build something with the structural support and aerodynamics to clear the roof and sustain the wind load...

    Full Size Dodge Thread

Agreed, I patched all 5 of the stock duratracs in their 32k mile lifespan from rock punctures, switched to KO2s and haven't had a single problem for the 22k they've been mounted.

Black Box Radio clone private label or just coincidence

No, Midland took a cheap Chinese radio and slapped their name on it, and got FCC Type Acceptance (which certainly has value) and resells it for $250. Black box is selling the original cheap Chinese radio with their name on it and no value added for even more than a name brand like Midland...

Ventilation for sleeping - truck bed with cap

I have a 6'4" ARE Z Series that I've slept in a few times, I can share a couple thoughts. First, I would not buy this cap again, I haven't been impressed with the build quality from day one. It's been on the truck for just over a year now, and the rear glass has shifted and will not latch...

    APRS Race/Chase question

How frequently would you want/need position updates? I would think this could be a challenge in a race scenario. Even on relatively slow moving group trail runs, by the time I get APRS beacons from the leader, I'm on top of or beyond the position that was reported. I think the D710's lowest...

    Kenwood TM-D710A Separation Cable

Don, are you sure about your control head having an RJ11 connector? I installed my radio a while back so I can't remember for certain but I'm pretty sure it's RJ45 on both ends and a straight through cable, either 568A or 568B straight through would work fine in that case. I did not extend mine...

Is my BaoFeng rubber ducky REALLY better than a Nagoya whip?

I noticed a clear improvement going from the stock to either the NA-701 or the NA-771, but I did notice a lot more intermod and overloading/desense in an urban environment, works great away from interference, could be related in your case?

    My APRS stopped working...

Take a look at the center conductor tab in the NMO connector, mine was squished on a Larsen NMO2/70, I just had to bend it out a bit to fix.

    My APRS stopped working...

Are you successfully decoding received packets? I'd try using it with the ignition off. In my installation I get a little bit of self-induced interference that sometimes makes decoding impossible while the engine is running. If you have a little ignition/alternator/computer noise in your TX...

    Midland MXT100 GMRS Mini Review

I'm going to guess that what you were hearing was the 147.435 repeater (https://your435.com/). I'd heard about it before traveling to CA but ran into it by accident while in the area because it's on a frequency that's typically allocated for simplex. I was disappointed by what I heard from that...

PICTURE THREAD: Post up your Mobile HAM setups

Thanks man, I love it but I would not have one if I didn't tow my house around. Yeah, the headliner didn't really need to come down too far. I tried for a long time to get it down so that I could see clearly that I wouldn't interfere with the sunroof. Eventually I gave up and used a tape measure...

Looks familiar! I wish someone would have done my NMO for $35, that headliner was a hassle!

    2017 Power Wagon

Agreed. I have 40k miles on my 2015, I was getting 13.5mpg avg while commuting in the city, now I'm averaging about 10.5mpg while towing a 7,500lb trailer nearly full-time. I see long stretches of 14-15, sometimes as high as 17, but I have not kept track tank by tank.

Which Model Kenwood or Yaesu Mobile 2m/70cm To Buy On a Budget?

What sort of experiences did you have with the Kenwoods? Just curious, I went from an icom ic-208h to a d710g and a v71a and I really like the Kenwoods.

    AEV Prospector

I'm curious whether plainjanefjc's 14 ram was a 2500+ with the AAM 11.5" or a half ton? The 11.5" (and pre-14 10.5") is a helical gear type LSD that does not require friction modifier additive like the clutch based LSD's do. I'm not sure what they put in the 1500.

    Midland MXT100 GMRS Mini Review

Unfortunately the FCC requires a non-detachable antenna for FRS, so just turning the tx power down to .5W wouldn't be sufficient.
