    G3n 3 STOK3!

Gen 3 montero transmission vibration fix: Start with removing the dampers as posted above. There are two of them. One hanging off the transmission, one hanging off the rear axle. Just removing both of those cut the vibration by more than half. Still, I had a vibration that was between 2000 and...

    2007 Triton Build

wow super fun to see all the work done yourself. What was wrong with the transmission that required a full disassembly? Also, do you notice a difference in power with the rebuilt engine?

2002 montero limited rear end rumble/vibration over 50mph

Been getting this new to me montero up to date on maintenance and the truck is butter smooth under 50mph, but about 50mph and higher I get a slight rumble/vibration from what sounds like the rear end. It is definitely speed related, as it comes on at the higher speeds, and as I increase speed...

    G3n 3 STOK3!

I believe it. My montero guy told me that he sees more problems with the 3.8 and thinks of the 3.5 as more reliable. That info along with the rear limited slip pushed me towards the 3.5.

    98 Montero Sport Manual transmission

Too cool. Low mileage too. My 95 5-speed had 240,000 miles on it when I sold it still running strong. Didn't know they made a manual with the rear locker.

    G3n 3 STOK3!

Some comparisons to my old Gen 2: The interior and entire truck feels sturdier with noticeably better quality and construction. Less creeks, more solid feels on everything you touch. Driving experience is night and day. This feels solid, planted, and smooth on the road with precise steering...

    G3n 3 STOK3!

Check out these old KO1 tires: You can also see the uneven wear from too high a lift and bad alignment. In my attempt to increase mileage and make highway driving as comfy as possible, I went with an offroad-ish highway tire from Falken in the stock size. I also took the 2" spacer out of the...

    G3n 3 STOK3!

Newest 2002 limited Gen 3 owner here, been a long time coming and I couldn't be more excited. My use case: Weekend road trips with 2-6 hours of highway before relatively easy 4x4 roads, fire roads, and deep sandy desert conditions. Also, needs to be able to haul a dirt bike on the hitch or a...

Los Angeles area recommendation for valve stem seals

Miko is an independent mitsu mechanic down in El Cajon. He's a montero genius. If you have premier AAA, they'll tow you for free to him. I just got a gen 3 and he's doing the heads for me now. He'll also travel, but you'll pay his rate for the travel. PM me if you want his contact.

Montero Gen 2 (1996) aftermarket suspension options?

Check out Adventure Driven Design. I loved the ride of my 1995 with the Bilstein 4600 shocks and stock springs. They also have different spring options available. I tried the Bilstein 5100 shocks but they were too soft for my vehicle with stock springs. Looks like King also has a kit if you...

Condensation issues leading to crank/no start in 95 Montero?

Sorry to hear about the trouble! I would think that moisture is condensation forming on the warm side of the cabin intake as cold air comes in. I doubt it is snow getting in there as the intake tract itself follows a convoluted path specifically designed to prevent water/snow intrusion. Have...

Lets see those OBS Ford / Chevy builds...

Good question! I’m thinking 1990 based on this ID plate, but I have no idea. It fits almost perfectly on the 89 bed, but not perfectly enough to have been made for it.
