nah those are custom swirl pistons. they trap some air between the cylinder wall and the top of the piston to make the engine run cooler and get better gas mileage.

how did it get like that? leaky injector?

Egts got to hot basically, I had spent all day sitting at 130 on the freeways, then when I hit the 140 zone I figured it had a little more left in it. was slowing down on a large climb, by me backing off the throttle, but apparently not quick enough. Ill put an egt gauge in next time and get a new tune. the last tune was clearly a bit hot.

it cruises at 130c?! (266f) are you climbing mountains constantly? is something else wrong with the cooling system? i have some diesels, mildly tuned, and they never get past 110°c before I slow down. they cruise at 75mph (120kph) all day and rarely get above 100c just at a steady speed on mostly flat ground. all 3 of my diesel cars run at the same temperature.

These are freeway speeds, this car sits at 87-89 all day and my pajero sits at a blistering 82 some how. they run nice and cool, even in 40c heat. the load trying to push those freeway speeds with the 2.5L just didnt end well. this was at about km mark 1000 for the day, so heat soaked as well. But the update from the machine shop says the block wont be ready till wednesday now, so I wont be able to finish it myself, as I will be in africa. so at least I will come home to a new car.

Well, I have headed to Angola but luckily before I left I got to see the block back from the machine shop. very high quality work. very impressed.

Then just today, they delivered it to our place. so she will be ready to roll when we return in 2 weeks.

Well, new engine is in, and is hemorrhaging oil.. the machine shop did a bang up job, but the final assembly is a bad joke. which is a shame. so in decemeber the workshop gets to deal with me in hi vis on the floor to ensure its done properly. But we did get out for a little adventure.

And of course, I finally found out why the rear diff wont lock, a gift from the previous owner. like I said before they are so bloody hard on cars here since they travel in group of 5+ people and withing about 10kms of a repair shop its never a worry, but this vehicle is taken a bit more remote so I gotta get it up to spec.

Also got some 3d printing to fix the glove box.

And parked up, with the battery unhooked for the next 5 months. Normally I would be back in September to pick it up for a trip, but this round we are headed back to armenia and georgia with the little wagon so my love gets to stretch her legs.

Well, I am finally home and able to use the ute. overall a few little issues to iron out. but I did get the rear leafs redone, and also stripped the gear box, and also did some electrical repairs. But with the ol girl up and running we went for a little mountain exploring and tomorrow is another day in the mountains as well.

And of course:

I seem to always end up doing a trans behind our apartment. at least the weather was good.

Overall in good nick for its age and miles.

wow super fun to see all the work done yourself. What was wrong with the transmission that required a full disassembly? Also, do you notice a difference in power with the rebuilt engine?

Righto, Well I did the seat mod. and let me tell you it makes a world of difference.

Starting with new brake units on both sides, I have been tracking this terrible rattle for ages, finally found it. worn caliper pins. changes and good to go.

As for electrical, finally got all the lights working, including the fog lights with broken harness wire and all extra lighting. made a few new harness' for the sun visor lighting.
also added isolators and hooked up all spot lights to work off the high beam switch. as prior there power was via a switch that was taking power directly from the ignition wire under the dash. this will be my 3rd round of removing excessing wiring. I could start a copper recycling plant at this rate.

New setup for power:

Nofinished photo today, but I added and isolator for the winch as well.

Lights all working, replaced the less bright light already.

Temporary rear setup for camping:

I also got suspension installed as the old stuff was done with spacers, and was not driving well, car was diving under braking and wobbling from bumps even with new struts and shocks. no good. New setup is Ironman with foam cells and 300kg constant load leafs. doesn't ride to bad actually.

Sitting high as it is currently empty:

And since we spent the last month around the Balkans getting rained on, we have gotten a camper setup that is a bit better than the ol swag setup. its currently being installed and comes with a new roof rack and running boards as well, as the ute is pretty high to get into. and of course a hard clam style shell RTT, open up to 1.9m wide by 2.1 long. room for days.. including the cat. lol

Mandatory cat photo, as you can see he is very stressed as we drive.

As for the canopy setup, progress is made. apparently I can collect it tomorrow at 12.. we will see, I need the vehicle to go to Bosnia by Saturday so the pressure is on. they are doing a good job though. stoked for a proper setup, and honestly, the fact I was able to buy it, not build is wild, I am like a kid at Christmas.

I will do a run down of what we got once finished, but it will have running water and solar. 35L fridge. 200 amp hours of battery. Victron electrical.

And of course, in Turkey you must register a canopy change.. which was all good till the tape measure came out. need to extend my lower bumper out 10cm out on each side to cover the tyre better, this is a temp fix for inspection. afterwards, choppy choppy. Fitting not complete yet though, still have sealing to do.

And both my girls parked up:

Last night I took delivery of the new setup, some photos in the bush are from the company's photo shoot. hence why half way its ends up back at the apartment.

Overall very happy. testing to begin in 2 days time, will try to sort power out in the mean time to the tent and modify a few small items to suit my build style. and also move the solar panel connectors before a tree rips them off.

The setup contains:
- Roof top tent
- shower setup
- 270 awning with lights
- 200amp hour of battery
- victron dc/dc controller
- victron solar controller
- 50l water tank
- sink
- shower water lines
- double cooker
- 35L fridge And more storage than we really require.

Posed up:

Setup at home:

Awning with lights and pull out open:

Slides open, drawers open further.

New running boards and roof rack. I will ad a light bar to fill the gap below roof rack.

And new reverse lights:

Well, basically the rebuilt injectors I got were no good. so while in Bosnia I got a set and quickly changed them. easy enough job, sadly no gasket kit this round..

But thats okay, cause once back in Turkiye, I got a set ordered, and used both cars to beat the heat as it was 40c out when I chose to do the job.

Mucho better.

I also just today, got new covers made for the awning and tent, they are for storage duties, as I will elave for 2 months for work, and the awning box lets water in when it rains, and I dont want the tent to get destroyed due to the sun for no reason.

The tent cover has a clear top in the same size of the solar panel, so I will have charging still going on while away.

Thats about it for now. See what the next break brings..
