I have an 01 TJ and have had heat soak issues in the past. The TJ and maybe the JK has a rubber seal that runs across the back of the hood. Pulling off that seal will allow heat to escape. No cutting needed.
I have never had overheating issues with the TJ and didn't notice any drop on the...
I have a pack back for my recovery stuff. Shackles, pulley, strap. I slip the cable trough the arms on my back pack. I have had a strap break but with a coat placed on it. It made a loud snap but just fell to the ground.
You don't want to rely on one thing. I have used my hi lift in conjunction with my hi lift more than once. Here is a video that show a mud recovery gone bad.

Even 7k isn't enough. More than just the hi lift could fail. Standing between your load and the anchor is not the safest place to be. I think the price a winch is a small price to pay for safety.
Allot depends on how you get stuck. I don't run through allot of mud. I am more likely to get hung on something. Mybe on an axle or high center. In those situations digging would make it worse. There have been time I place rocks in front of the tire to help me get over things. There are...
I am a fan of using a hi lift, but not so much for winching. You have to but yourself between the anchor and the vehicle. If something breaks that is not a good place to be. The high lifts I have seen are rated to lift just less than 5K. Winching out a full size truck with a hi lift might be...
Exactly. Dragging around a 70lb plus winch in an environment where you would be stuck may not be that easy, it could even be dangerous. Depending on how you are stuck you may not even be able to mount it.
Those are mounted with a hitch receiver designed for maybe 5k and pulling straight. You will also loose approach or departure angle when mounted. They do have advantages and they have disadvantages.
When you use a pulley you do help gain more pulling power but it will take twice the cable which will reduce the power and you will have less options for anchor points if you run short on cable.
It is a the type of wire shelf you would get from home depot. It is left over from when my home was built. I have a metal rail that hold it in place. The shelf can hold the weight of a person, it is very sturdy. We jump allot and don't want to have to take the rods down.
I am looking to see how people are storing fishing gear in their wrangler. At this point I have a little shelf above the steering wheel to keep tackle and I can keep fishing poles running front to back bungeed to the shelf and roll bar. I have a 5 gallon jerry car cut so I can take the top off...
